OVER 24,500 MAKE WESTFEST THIS YEAR

Considering that our population is less that 3,000, that's not bad..it was up 2,000 from last year...Now listen up folks this is a big deal...Stephanie Lee was crowned Miss Westfest of 2006.The Westfest started out with the crowning of the new Westfest who is 19-year old Stephanie Lee. She is the daughter of Pat Lee,a sophmore at MCC and her contest sponser was Community Grocery Store. She is a communication major and plans to attend either University of Texas at Arlington or Texas A&M after graduating from MCC.She said:"I was shocked and started crying, I'm honored and very proud to hold the title and hope I can be an inspiration to our youth." As Miss Westfest, she hopes to"promote Czech culture and inspire our youth. I want to tell them to keep trying and never give up."
The reason I am making a big deal over this part of the story about Westfest is because the article in the paper did not once mention.....that she has been blind since birth. I only mention it because I'm so proud that they didn't...
Ok, are you ready for the best part? Just how much food was there? I can tell you how much they ate:1,965 hamburgers,1,130 corney dogs,1,110lbs. of french fries,5,200 kolaches,650 turkey legs,250 hot dogs,600 baked potatoes,3,400 lbs. of spudzillas,4,500 sausage sandwiches, sausage sticks and sausage and kraut plates and an additional 1,300 lbs. of sausage for sandwiches,1,440 roasted ears of corn,1,200 snowcones,2,640 bottles of water and 800
servings of cotton candy,300 small bags and 500 large bags of Bavarian nuts,200 lbs. of corn for kettle corn,50 lbs. of uncooked pork rinds,80 loaves of bread,1,987 skunk eggs,350 soft ice cream and cones,3 cases of fried green tomatoes,20 gallons of fried pickles,30 lbs. of fried squash,400 ice cream floats,250lbs. of sausage products(more sausage),70 gallons of saurerkraut,400 small corn on the cob,1,750 funnel cakes,150 rosettes,420 gyros,75 spanakopita,1,900 nachos, 150 dozen tamales,300 fajitas,125 frito pies( I love frito pies),297 cabbage rolls,350 tacos,250 chalupas, 250 burritos, and 25 strudles....burp..fart..sigh****..
I will have some pictures in a week or so...But the bad part about Westfest is that they are cracking down so hard on dui's and I really understand that..especially after the last dui wreck killed a mother of 3..So I am thinking they should erect another huge tent with tables, chairs and serve breakfast with coffee and juice...just pancakes and scrambled eggs...maybe even have the coffee and juice be free and charge just enough to cover the cost of breakfast...Because I know the police were out in droves looking for drunk drivers
and there are lots of them after a day of drinking beer..so if they want the numbers to grow instead of dwindle(had 42,000 one year)..I think they are going to have to consider it..plus they are going to have to get better big draw names...we had Asleep At The Wheel one year and that drew alot of people..but we need to pay more to get better groups..maybe an American Idol winner or ...one that placed.
I think I will go to the next Westfest commitee meeting..I have some ideas that I think will help...but since my last name doesn't end with a vowel...they probably won't pay any attention to me..even after all these years I am still not czech..and that counts around here...

I have indigestion from reading that. I would dearly love to see a skunk laying one of those eggs. Dothey keep them in Skunk coops and have young maidens gather the eggs?
I'm still looking for someone to scratch my ass because I'm not any good at it.
So the whole town is blind to the Queen's blindness. I think that's great.
I'm verry depressed right now, I didn't win the lottery and I still seem to be stuck in the same rut. Well, the county fair starts next week maybe I'll go to see the bunnies and pigs and moo cows. :)

I know what you mean about having the wrong name. Here we have something similar, but it is a Ukrainian fest. My heritage is Ukranian, but since I don't speak it and go by my ex-husband's Scottish last name ... well .. I feel sometimes snubbed.

Still, sounds like you got some great ideas, and if they don't listen to you, you can always put your boot up their ..... still laughing over that one ... :)

Cheers!

skunk eggs are fried bacon, onion and a bunch of other stuff rolled in an egg shape and batter with crumbs and deep fried..this is texas ..every thing is deep fried..even the coffee..

i would expect there are about 25+ porta potties..as we have a mens/womens restroom(nearly got destroyed in last years tornado)..that has about 8 stalls in each...
last year we had armadillo eggs and someone said all they were were jalopenas stuffed with cheese, battered and fried..hell i make them all the time...stuff them with crab, or shrimp, or tuna also...nummy
im going to the first westfest meeting and giving my opinon if it hairlips the governor...we need to bring in the younger crowd..maybe get a american idol reject...like chris or that pickle girl...

Wow, I think reading your post gave me acid reflux. Sounds like a nice time was had by all, though. There are several festivals and such in my neck of the woods, this part of the world likes to bill itself as "quaint."

Like I said I'm waiting to go the hospital and nothing to eat or drink since mid-night and now you got me drooling over the food at west fest.

Hunger pains go away. :)
