AUGUST BIRTHDAYS AT STRICKLY COUNTRY

Dang...only reason why I went was because they said James Hand was going to play...Only they thought he was going to do it for free, and he was forced to inform them this is his job and he plays for money...So no James "Slim" Hand...dang!...But because I can't go anywhere with out bringing food, I made an apple cobbler(and one for Babs) okra fritters and green chili hush-puppies...The cobbler and the okra fritters were a big hit but the hushpuppies were too salty...and the green chili flavor sort of faded in the cooking, so will have to rethink that recipe. But damn, the okra fritters..they rocked..I knew I should have made a double batch...they were gone in minutes..I stayed about 2 1/2 hours..one diet Dr pepper and one water...I actually ended up busing some tables and getting some beers for people to help the bartender out. She was really busy..Saw some people I haven't seen in ages...saw my kinda sorta cousin Ricky Maler...every time I see Ricky I remember all the drugs we did..I'm surprised we survived our misspent youth..ha!..Youth my ass...that was 25 years ago..I wasn't a
'ute' as Billy Pilgrim calls them..I was in my thirties..I took all the pictures up there and Pasty took the ones of her saying damn my ass is big and put them in her purse..Then she went and got her ass locked in the bathroom...I thought she was gone a long time, then Chief's new girlfriend told Merle that Patsy was locked in the bathroom and he had to go jimmy the door to get her out..Patsy said she was sending a carpenter down first thing in the morning to fix that fucking door..
I got a phone call from Vicki(junebugg)

saying barring tornadoes, floods, or the second coming of Jesus, she would be here Thursday afternoon...She's coming from M. Alabama for the Westfest..I haven't heard from Sooner, but the last I talked to him, he was coming too...I'm so excited...2 of my friends are making it for Westfest..Now hopefully by next year after I rave and go on about how much fun we had more of you will show up ...You can put in your vacation for next year now and have an entire year to save up and plan your trip..I'll promise to make lots of okra fritters, stuffed jalapenos and cobblers...might even throw in a pot of chili..
Well, have to go do laundry....argh...I have to..I can't get in my bedroom with out a gun bearer and a guide..It's not to late for you to make this years Westfest...grab a pillow and come on down...

That is one of my reoccuring dreams, getting locked in the bathroom somewhere and no one knows where I am. I could go for some apple cobbler. yum!

If you knew how badly I wanted to come to WestFest you would stop teasing! I seriously thought about it...but we are in the middle of harvest (our big paycheck)...hell, who knows...I could twist off and show up! It is in driving distance!

Love the idea of okra fritters! Spent all weekend canning my butt off. Put up 54 pints of black-eyed peas Saturday (shelled so many peas I'm numb) and 37 gallon bags of corn we froze today. So over the whole thing at the moment. BUT! I will send you the recipe for jalapeno macaroni salad but I must tell you...I made some jalapeno pickle relish that is so delicious I may never eat any other thing~! We eat it with freaking frito's but I can't wait to try it in potato salad or tartar sauce or something! Got some jalapeno jelly too! I should load up my jeep and my dog (she's scared of cats) and cruise your way with jars of yummy stuff. In trade for peach cobbler...of course!

lic:she's claustraphobic and wasn't a happy camper..clyde is the one that told her to use the back bathroom and he's about 6'7" and patsys about 5'1" and she was right up in his chest threatening to kick his ass..haha
robin:wow, can't believe all you canned..I used to can when i lived in calif and oregon, but my gardening area is too small to even think about it..maybe next year i'll be able to expand it..
i want the recipe for the jalapeno pickle relish too...i love anything with jalapeno..the okra fritter recipe had bell peppers in the original recipe, and i thought bullshit..im in texas we don't do bell peppers we do jalapenos so had onion, okra and jalapeno in the batter with bacon..oh man it was good..but i think i can experiment with it and kick it up a notch..annie will ignore the dog...bring him and come on down...

I'd love to go to WestFest and get out of Dodge before the Republicans come storming into the city like a bunch of angry locusts next weekend, but alas, I can't.

Hope you and June Bugg have fun!

Yuk Okra! I hate that stuff. The other stuff sounds good though.
Not much chance of me making Westfest as any time there is a Holiday in the summer I get real busy, and labor day is when we start filling all the school orders again. gotta give the brats their wiennie and hamburger buns.
I don't understand, that lin worked you me but it is a real long clip and maybe its overloading your system.

well now nit, boiled okra is a kind of a mess, it's true, but fried okra in cornmeal batter is hard to beat. you can make a meal off it, and these fritters sound similar......recipe?

i've got plans for the third week of september but much appreciate the westfestinvite. party on dudes.

My folks are leaving for Texas tomorrow morning to go to San Antonio to see my sister for two weeks. If I wasn't already scheduled in to be in Kentucky and back in Alabama I'd have hitched a ride and suggested a stop through.

It's a bitch actually being busy at work sometimes.
