WEST, BY GODDESS, TEXAS NEWS

Hot dang..West VFD Barbeque Cookoff is this Saturday..hot dang..Yes I will be judging again. I never learn. Although I enjoy judging BBQ better than chili..There are only so many ways you can fuck up BBQ..but millions of ways to fuck up chili..and they do. This is the 18th annual barbeque cookoff for the West Volunteer Fire Department and the city of West.
For the 4th straight year, the cookoff will beva little more profitable for the winners with an increase in guaranteed prize money from $10,000 to $15,000. There is still time to enter and get down her for the cookoff if you drive fast. The barbeque cookoff is sanctioned by the International (IBCA) and will be judged under their rules. The kids will have their Barbeque Pork Chop Cookoff on Friday with judging to immediately follow. I will have to be up bright and early Saturday to get down and sign up. I'll do a post and take lots of pictures.
I always have fun no matter what.

Remember George Hamilton IV? He's going to be at the Abbott Methodist Church at 10:45 a.m. this coming Sunday.
West is having a Bullfest set for April 30. It's the Bullfest and the Texas Youth Bull Riders. Every event in West now has a fest stuck to the end of it. We have Westfest, the 4th of July Expofest (or something like that), and the Mayfest and now the Bullfest. Soon we will have Sundayfest, Kolachefest, Skunkeggfest, etc.
The West Rest Haven is planning a lunch fundraiser on March 23rd at the nursing home facility. 12-ounce bowl of soup and a chicken salad sandwich for $5 a person. Which reminds me I need to call Kathy and see if she needs any help. The proceeds are to go toward scholarships and donations to various organizations.
They are having a benefit for the infant son of Billy and Jessica Harrell at the VFW. A hamburger supper for $8 a plate and a auction to being at 5pm and live music provided by Ryan Roberts. Little Charlie was born in November 2010 and has RSV, Rhino Virus and is still on a respirator at Scott and White Hospital in Temple. I need to call and see if there is anything I can contribute to the auction. So sad.

We also have a new arrival. The most lovely Rylie Anne Lassetter, the granddaughter of my bank manager Bernie Klish. She weighed 7 pounds 13 ounces and 20.5 inches long. I don't know what it is about Bernie, but she has the most beautiful grand-baby's..
You won't remember but couple years ago I posted a picture of her grand-son who had a little neckerchief on and a cowboy had and the cutest expression on his face you ever saw. Rylie is right up there.

Hot dang..The Nemecek Brothers are selling fresh eggs..all natural. White $1.19 a dozen and brown $1.69 a dozen. I wish I had seen that earlier, I would have bought local instead of getting a flat of eggs at House of Satan.
Oh..My girl Marissa Adamson, (Inky's niece) made A Honor Roll again.
The Knights of Columbus Hall of West is having a fish fry March 25th, April 8 and April 22 from 5-7 for $8 a plate. They even have a drive thru. I love West..food everywhere.
Speaking of food, we have a new restaurant. Well, it's at the old Sulak's.
It's now called Cafe Vin of West. Cafe of vines. They have daily specials and have free Wifi. I will have to tear myself away from Pizza House to go try out their Chili and Babs wants to try the banana pudding.
Out West Bar and Grill is now serving ribeyes daily instead of just on Saturday. Tokio has a special treat on Saturday. They have a cover band for Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. hmm, no cover.
West kiddo's are kicking butt. The Lady Trojans win their district opener over Hillsboro 11-1. 5 Trojans were named to the All District 8-AAA basketball teams. 10 West Lady Trojans were named to the All District 8-AAA basketball teams. The West High School girls varsity tennis team wins championship at Waco Regional meet.West Trojans continue the non-district portion of their baseball season. Last week they lost their first game this season. They are now 11-1 and if that isn't great enough.......WE ARE #1 HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM IN THE ENTIRE STATE OF OF BY GODDESS TEXAS...yes, they rock.
the Women's Slovak Chorus to perform Saturday at the Main Street fundraiser. They will perform traditional folk music from the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Croatia, Georgia and more during their West visit. Using traditional instruments and clad in authentic Balkan garb, they will be singing rhythmic, harmonic tunes which have spanned centuries of Slavic, artistic culture. $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.
If all this food and good times is making you want to move to West, here's a nice old house for you. Built in the 70's 3/3/2 on 10 acres, fenced for animals, barn and garage. $165,000. This is another house for sale by owner, 1,625 sq. living area, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, den with gas log fireplace, 2 car garage with openers, central heat and air, front porch, back patio, deck, built in 2003. Large metal building. Close to schools, tile floors and wood laminate floors for $159,900
Plus there are 15 garage sales this weekend.
Well, that's all the news for the week...I think you all should move to West. There is one bakery, 2 restaurants and a electrical repair company with 2 rentals for sale..Come on down ....the first Skunk egg is on me.

You bet I remember George Hamilton IV! He was very popular up here in Canada and in fact had a TV show on one of the Canadian broadcasters for awhile in the early 70s. He recorded an album called "Canadian Pacific" full of, you guessed it, Canadian music. It was my favourite album for a while when I was a teenager.

I can't believe the housing prices, but I'd move to West just for all the food.

That Realtor down there has started sending me even more listings lately.
Sometimes with no pictures. I think the most expansive was still under $200,000.00.
I haven't won the lottery yet so I don't think I can afford them.
Now I have to go and stuff myself. Your posts do wonders for my appetite.

Once I got to judge the hot sauce at an agriculture show. Most of the sauce was lame, and the hottest was OK. I'm the kind of guy that thinks the hot stuff ain't too hot.

Sadly...I know what I am missing.
Wish there were more towns that got involved like West does.
Attitudes can be ignored....the other stuff your town has to offer makes up for it. ;0)

If there's food all over in West, how come someone we all know and love KEEPS FORGETTING TO EAT LUNCH?!

I'm watching you, missy!

(I can't get over how cheap the houses are there!)

Hope you survived the judging! Sounds like a good way to give your tongue all sorts of sensations.
