WEST, BY GODDESS, TEXAS NEWS

I think everyone is pretty aware of what's going on in West, with the refusal of FEMA to not give us any money, because Good Hair Perry and the state of Texas have a kabillion dollars in their rainy day fund.
And why should they pay for anything when Texas is perfectly capable of fixing it her ownself..Now we need to get Perry to cough it up before he uses it to fund another run at the Presidency.
But something that you might find interesting, and I sure did is this little West Demographics.
Median Age:Texas 33.6----West 38.9
Percentage of population 70 and older: Texas 7%----West 17.6
Percentage of population 65 and older: Texas 10.3---West 21%
Percentage of working age population, 20-65: Texas 59.4 ----West 50.6
Education attainment high school graduate:Texas25.7---West 26.5
Associate degree:Texas 6.4---West 9.2
Bachelor's degree Texas 17.4---West 12.3
Graduate or professional degree: Texas 8.6---West 4.8
Median household income: Texas $50,920---West $35,929
Mean household income: Texas $70,777---West $48,759
Place of birth, born in USA Texas 82.6----West 94.3
Born in Texas: Texas 60.5--West 87.1
Foreign born: Texas 16.2--West 5.4
Language spoken at home English only: Texas 65.6---West 81.4
Spanish: Texas 29.3---West 11.4
Other Indo-European languages:Texas 2%---West 7.2%

There are some good news and glad to report that..Governor Good Hair signs bill to allow tax relief so the properties that were either completely destroyed or partially will get a property re-evaluation.
This coming Saturday we are having a Celebrate West event at the West Fair and Rodeo Grounds(where Westfest is held). The event which is centered around the Chamber of Commerce's annual fireworks display(Czechslosion) and is a free event. The gates will open at 5 p.m.
An awards ceremony is set for 6:30 p.m. in the CW Pavilion followed by musical entertainment provided by the Air Force Band.(I may not wear one of my West t-shirts so I can wear my Air Force T-shirt.)
Other entertainment is to include the West community choir, under the direction of Charles Nemec, scheduled to sing the national anthem. "This is a community even which is another step in the healing process for the city," West chamber president David Pareya said Monday.
"This is an event where all the families can come and help celebrate America's birthday. It will be an evening of enjoyment for everyone."
Also at the event, Slovacek's is scheduled to reintroduce Nemecek's hot dog wieners to the public. You would actually have to have tasted one of the Nemecek's wieners to know what the big deal is..and it is a big deal to us.(When we first moved here the kids thought it was weird when we went to the meat market, they would hand all the kids a wienie..but damn...what a wienie..)"They will be giving free hot dogs, popcorn and drinks to everyone in attendance."
Fireworks will start about 8 p.m. They will be  choreographed with patriotic music played by the Air Force Band. Everyone is encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Also on June 29, the Chamber plans to distribute the tickets to the West Day at the Ballpark in Arlington set for July 6.(the Texas Rangers are having a West Day and letting us have free tickets to see them play, we are all pretty psyched about that as they will be playing the Houston Astros, making it an all Texas game.) The opening ceremony will be centered around West and will honor West and the first responders. The West Community Choir, which will perform for the first time on June 29 at Celebrate West, will sing the National Anthem prior to the start of the game. In addition, Donna Beckham of West is to sing God Bless America during the seventh inning stretch. Also our Mayor, Tommy Muska is going to throw out the first pitch..we're all hoping he won't bounce it to the plate.
So West is pretty stoked about this. This is on top of the Dallas Mavericks mascot and some of the Maverick's coming to West and putting on a basketball clinic and cheer camp for the West Kids.Dallas Maverick's couch Rick Carlisle and Nancy Lieberman coached two teams at Saint Mary's...Plus the Volunteer Fire Dept played against the West Police Dept. Pretty cool..
And the beat goes on...and so does West. Mr and Mrs Albert J. Charanza, Sn. celebrated their 55th Anniversary, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mynarcik  celebrated their 50th Anniversary. Robert Lane Perry came into the world on May 1 weighing in at 8 pounds, 8 ounces and 20.5 inches long. BrenLe Nicole-Curstyn Dudik was born on May 2 weighing 6 pounds 11 ounces and was 19 inches long.

I don't know how close you've been following things here in West...but the most heartbreaking part of all of this horrible tragedy is that 14 residents have died since the explosion..All of it assuredly caused by the explosion and the loss of their home at the WRH. I am broken hearted mostly because of the loss of my buddy Carl.

I'm sure I have talked about him..he is the one I bought salsa and brought it to him so he could spice up his meals..I helped rescue him the night of the explosion and made sure he got in a ambulance and to the hospital. He was at the nursing home where Jamie works..so I got to visit him.. I got a jar of salsa and took it to him..He had lost his teeth, glasses and hearing aid..so he was like a new born..When I peeked around the corner to surprise him he leaned way out of his wheel chair and looked really hard at me and said 'are you granny?'(he called me that because Jamie calls me Grannie)and I said 'none other'...And we hugged and hugged and cried and laughed..He swore up and down I had saved his life..Seems when I talked to him no one had checked up on him and I wasn't going to let that go, so I chased down a  nurse and he had 103 temperature and I  made sure he got into a ambulance and to the hospital right away. He said the Dr said that if he hadn't gotten to the hospital as fast as he did he would have been very bad..??? so Carl was convinced I saved his life..I spent a couple of hours with him and Larry Joe, giving them clothes, body washes, etc. stuff I had got from the Church of Christ. It was just wonderful..he was thrilled to death with his Salsa..The next day he fell and by the end of the week he was gone..I can't tell you how badly that hurt..I was watching Abby and couldn't get free before night hours(don't like to drive at night) and that was the last I saw him. By the time I found out he had passed away, the funeral was over..At least I did get to see him and talk to him. It meant everything to me to at least know I got to see him..

Me News? The truck is in the Dudik hospital getting an over haul..I wasn't sure what it was but thought it was either fuel filter or carb..Well it seems like it's a general over haul..Plugs, filters, oil change, anti freeze, etc..So I'm waiting for him to call me with the estimate..eek..hoses, belts.. it's 17 years old and with the exception of the A/C compressor, batteries, tires, alternator, nothing has been done to it..Oh I had the oil changed..but that was it...so hope I'll have her back soon and it doesn't cost me my left tit to get her fixed..
ok...that's enough news..I'm going to go take a nap..I love all of you...

So sorry to hear the sad news about Carl. I'm sure glad you got in one last visit with him.

Celebrate West sounds like it will be one helluva event! I hope there's a spectacular turnout and that everyone has a great time.

Tell Governor Perry that it's older people who vote and West has a higher than state average of oldsters! I hope that helps him to loosen the purse strings for all of you there.

One wonders why the crooks in power have to pass a bill to invoke property reappraisals...?

If its been leveled by a "bomb like blast" don't you think it would be "automatically" done by any "real" public servant????

Don't you know how the USA works? Those who deserve help, and need help, and have earned help, don't get it. While the unworthy get showered with freebies.
