ReplyDeleteThe only reason your agreeing with Newt is that he is stealing the progressive position on Afghanistan and war in general. If they had followed through on the initial victory there and not moved on to a war in Iraq we would have had our troops home alive and happy a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteNot all problems are solvable by means that we're willing to accept. We pay people to solve those problems for us, and not to tell us how they did it.
ReplyDeleteIn one of Jan Morris's books about the British Empire she talks about Afghanistan over a 100 years ago under the British - tribal warfare, war lords, double crossing allies, nefarious local governments, a British garrison abandoning its post - a caravan of 2000 people - men, women and children - and only 2 people survived - the others victims of terrorists en route. Do we learn? Nope.

ReplyDeleteI actually agree with the Newt on several issues. I agree on something will all of those nuts for that matter. It's the many, many things we disagree on that scares me, particularly Neutron Newt and Ricky Scrotum. My man is Buddy Roemer.

OBL is dead and the network has been decimated. The Taliban are Karzai's problem and the only solution over there is a political

is stealing us blind and we are not going to win the hearts and minds game - We are seen as the new Russians by the Afghans - Infidels on Arab soil. And, we will continue to come home in boxes, or maimed and crippled until we have the wisdom to do
what the Soviets did and get the

ReplyDeleteNewt does occasionally say something sane, usually when he's not running for office. If he's sounding sane now (even if it's only on Afghanistan) it could be a sign he's figured out he's not going to be campaigning much longer.
It's always scary when someone who is wrong in so many ways says something you agree with. What is truly scary is that the times we are really shocked is when they speak the truth!!
