How do you take it out of context if the guy says he thinks most of the tenets of evolution are fairy tales? No, sorry, Yellowdog Granny has it right. He is dumb. You don't need to be that smart to be a neurosurgeon. You need to have steady hands and memorize where all the nerves are and what they do. It doesn't mean you have any idea how to run a country.
You can be capable and excel in one academic field and be totally ignorant of other disciplines; even capable of buying into outlandishly stupid movements.
Dr Carson may be a distinguished doctor, but he is ignorant of history,civics and and science beyond the field of medicine. Christianity fundamentalism does that to you.
You can be distinguished in a particular field and still buy into passing poisonous snakes around in church - speaking in unknown tongues and denying the scientific consensus on evolution and climate change.
I had a Professor, Doctor of Psychology ask me if it was a full moon in Maine was it also a full moon in Florida. This is the case for Dr Carson - brilliant in his field but otherwise ignorant, and not presidential material. the Ol'Buzzard
