I keep asking myself: how the fuck did we get here? And then I remember that Congress sets the standards for public education. It is the chicken and the egg scenario - the self fulfilling prophecy: people like Louie Gohmert of Texas have a say on what is taught in the schools and people that graduate with a less than adequate education vote for people like Louie Gohmert.
Not picking on Texas Granny, he is just the first nutcase Congress person that came to mind - a climate denier, a science denier, believes the world is six thousand years old...
