WEST, BY GODDESS, TEXAS NEWS
Well, the 20th Annual West Volunteer Fire Department Barbecue Cookoff went off with out a hitch and my participation. It drew 87 teams which was a little more than last year with 2003 being the largest with 138 teams.Proceeds from this year's cookoff will go toward purchasing needed equipment for the West Fire Dept.
The Msgr. George Doskocil Fourth degree Knights of Columbus Assembly 2391 had a fish fry this last Friday. Plates sold for $8 a plate.
The West Junior Catholic Daughters are scheduled to host their annual Community Easter Egg Hunt beginning at 10 a.m. at the West Community Center this Saturday. Dang, I missed it..Could have taken Abby. Maybe next year, when she's older and can get down and chase down some eggs.
Benefits from the event will benefit the West Public Library.
St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption had it's drive through Stations of The Cross again this year. Approximately 140 vehicles drove through.
The Dani Dulock Benefit is to begin at 11 a.m. April 7 at the KC Hall in West. Barbecue dinner plates will be available in the hall or to go for $8 a plate. Raffle tickets are on sale and will be available at the benefit. A silent auction is planned as well as a horseshoe pitching tourney. There will also be a cake walk, face painting and fish pond for the kids.
Proceeds from this event will help defray expenses for Dulock, who was injured in a serious auto accident. Cash donations can be accepted at Stale National Bank.
The Bold Springs Baptist Church has scheduled a hamburger meal on April 1st and fish and shrimp dinner on April 5. They are planned at 11 a.m. in the Mary E. Howard Multipurpose Center. To call in orders phone 826-3225.
On Nov. 3 Kristi Michele Glomb and Eric John Chudej were united in marriage at a 4 p.m. ceremony.I wish my scanner worked on my laptop so I could show you how handsome Dr. Cujo is and how beautiful his wife is.. I'm telling you..at almost 70, having a cute Dr. is not a bad thing.
Janna Michelle Kolar and Andy Carl Roller were joined in marriage on Saturday, January 19, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West.
Baseball and Softball are in full swing..West Trojans open district with two wins over La Vega and Lorena and a non-district win over Grandview.
Two West High School tracksters sign letters with Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. Senior Devin Hlavenka is scheduled to run track and cross country. Kara Kolar is scheduled to run track.
The West Lady Trojans remain unbeaten in 17-AAA action following wins over La Vega and Lorena. I'm telling you ..both the Trojans and Lady Trojans are not only going to state they're winning this time..
70 years ago Josephine E. Johnson of West had completed four weeks of basic training at the Third Training Center of the Women's Auxiliary Corps. Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. and has been selected for special training to Administration at Texas State College for Women, Denton, Texas.
95 years ago in West Cash Merchantile Co's Saturday special: 10 pounds Irish potatoes for 15c, limit 10 pounds; Rub No More Wash Powder, regular 5c seller, for 4c, limit 3 packages; B.E. Peas, regular 12 cent seller for 10 cents, limit 5 pounds.

As a result of a contention which has in the most part been the paramount issue in Texas politics for 42 years, about 1,500 saloons closed their doors last night. These institutions are closed in obedience to the ten mile zone law passed by the recent special session of the Texas Legislature. Tonight at 9:30 every town in Texas goes into the dry column. Besides those 1,500 saloons there remains about 1,100 saloons which must close their doors on June 26. All breweries at San Antonio, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and Galveston will continue manufacturing non-alcoholic drinks..
