I just can't figure out why so many idiots stay when they know a hurricane is on the way. It's not like they don't get many hours of warning, not like tornadoes or earthquakes.

Shyte. I deleted mine as well but not before I sent it on to several family members and friends.

Those images are just stunning.

Dear God. I just read your previous post - those Chevy Nova driving idiots had better think twice before venturing out into the world of torrential rain.

I cackled out loud, Jac....and it's past 1am here! Sheesh! Hope I didn't wake the husband and kid!

Cool pictures. In all of my travels I have never seen much of that kind of weather. I was in Alaska in 64 for the big quake though.

And I stay prepared just in case something happens here. I have plenty of food, a couple hundred gallons of water, ways to cook, ways to make light, other things to live in, etc.

first..thanks to nitwit I have the information on the pictures..no name for the photographer though..rats..any how..the last picture was taken from 3rd story balcony of Saint Stanislaus College located next door to our Lady of the Gulf Church in Bay Saint Louis, Miss. on the morning of Aug29th,2005.This is believed to the the initial wave(tidal) of Hurricane Katrina. The wave was approximately 35-40 feet high when it slammed into the beachfront communities of Bay Saint Louis and Waveland, it completely destroyed 99% of every structure along the beach for 9 miles and more then a mile inland. But the destruction only started there. The flooding which continued inland destroyed all but 35 homes in these 2 communites of approximately 14,00 people...
by the way..thanks to Junebugg for sending this to me in the first place..she got it from a friend from Mississippi...thanks Juney.
Jan: the people of Mississippi monstly listened to their newspaper and the radio and hauled ass...the people in New Orleans..were told to stay till it was too late.and most of them were poor blacks who had no transportation and no one every organized buses or the national guard to help them get out..when you have no way out..you get left behind..
June;thanks soo much for this..I have one of the pictures on my screen for saver...it is so terrifying..but yet so beautiful..
Buddha:it's ok..nitwit rescued me.
arent they unbelievable?
Nitwit:bless you my child...you da'man..
BBC:never can be too safe...

scary, but somehow compelling.....
ntoing close mind you...
but when I lived and worked in Swampscott Ma, we experienced a syzygy during a storm, during high tide.

the syzygy caused a tide to beat all tides that I had ever seen.. the water came up over the beach, rose above the sea wall... washed across the street, and up the steps of the building where I worked. this was about one city block from where we lived, with the elementary school between. Oh.. and it was a snow storm.. a nor'easter.. and snow was falling on top of the rest...

It is almost impossible to take your eyes off of what is being played out in front of you...

now mind you... there was no wall of water...
but I sure wish i had some pictures.. but I don't remember taking any.....

I can't imagine experiencing what those is La. and Mi did that year....
and they are still sitting there waiting for help, it seems..........

:(

Oh my holy hell!
Few things terrify me more than tornadoes and floods. Except for possibly volcanoes but where I live is not particularly volcano prone.
I was once up close to a tornado that was, fortunately, coming apart. The two pieces of the funnel unwrapped like unwinding a braid. There was a terrible whooshing sound yet, sounded like something straight out of hell. I was in awe, like I was hypnotized. I couldn't move, I could only stare. If it had decided to, it could have reached down and wiped me out and I would have stood there gaping and done nothing.
