WEST, BY GODDESS, TEXAS NEWS

Hot...really hot...very very hot..sigh* been at least 100-106...we had a cold front move in and lowered the temperature to 97 and less than an inch of rain..Hot.
West Library needs volunteers to make confetti eggs. It's one of the ways the library raises money each year. The kids we used to depend on them are out of school and moved on, so we need new blood. I'm thinking about asking Kathy if maybe the volunteers at West Rest Haven might be able to help. I might help too.
West Fraternal is having a 2 day garage sale. Anissa and I went today and I got a bunch of stuff for the Tale Tellers to use when they tell their stories and one lady was so nice she bagged up all of the scarves and men's ties and let me have them for a dollar. I also got a book on stories to be read that they might be able to use. I also found me some books, of course. But it was so hot in there. It's a huge place and was packed with tables and people selling stuff, but guess they didn't figure it was worth turning the a/c on ..all the money they'd make would go on the electric bill. Anyhow Anissa and I had fun.

Next Sunday we're having the Czech-splosion. I'm going for sure. Although my ass will be wore out as it's the day I do my shopping and also am going to Wakko and get my new diabetic shoes.
And Monday we're having Jackie's Kitchen combined with the regular bingo. We'll have strawberry and blueberry shortcakes with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Just be me and Jamie as it's a holiday and only one person works on holidays.

WWII veteran is getting his medal for helping liberate Czechoslovakia . He will receive the Cross of Merit of the Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic (the country's highest defense award)
from Deputy Prime Minister Karel Schwarzenberg and Czech Republic Military Attache Brig. Gen. Premysl Skacha.

There is going to be a re-dedication ceremony for the Crash At Crush state historical marker on September 15, to coincide with 115th anniversary of the event. Anyone that has any pictures or artifacts from the crash are asked to contact Mimi Montgomery Irwin at the West News. If your interested in what the Crash at Crush is..google it.

Looks like it's not just me that is in love with my fair city. There is a letter to the editor from a family that had been stranded in West when their car pulling a 31-foot trailer broke down. Along with their daughter and 3 dogs. Seems like everyone stopped to help them. Got their car fixed pulled their trailer to KOA Grounds and really just showed them the generosity that West citizens are known for. Lovely letter and they were so amazed at the level of caring and help they received. Made me proud.
West also has Zumba Fitness classes $5 per class. I thought about taking them..but think I can get the same results shaking my ass to alansgoldenoldies.com on the weekend when I listen to it.

West educational group awards $11,000 in grants for Grow Green with Us and an educational field trip to Space Caverns, 4 whiteboards, 2 lap top computers, 16 kindles for the reading program and for Math Tutorial Help software.

The 16th annual Girard family reunion will be held on June 25, 2011 at Cottonwood Hall.
1971 WHS graduates plan a Oct. 22 reunion.

Here we are having the worse drought in 10 years and 50 years ago we set a record high for 9.5 inches of rain in 5 days. Texas...gotta love it.
Marissa made AB honor roll again. Hmm, she usually makes A honor roll. She's coming to the house not this weekend but next and we're having a slumber party. Should be fun.

West has an ad in the paper for Correctional Officers for Jack Harwell Detention. Anyone wanna job?..Get a job as a correctional officer and then buy a 1915 built home, wonderful woodwork, hardwoods, butler pantry needs updating and remodeling . Priced to sell at $34,900.
Or you could buy a city lot with large pecan trees for only $15,000 and just build one. Or you could buy the Village Bakery or Ray's Electric and Plumbing business. Lots of opportunities here in West. All that and Pizza House of West too..and Gerik's Bakery..Life's good here folks..well except for the 102 temperature..but we do have good A/C's and me. Y'all come back and see me..ya'hea?

WEST, BY GODDESS, TEXAS NEWS

Not a bunch of news this week..But still enough so that you can keep up with what's going on in West. Kiwanis had a blood drive today. West Senior Center has the monthly birthday party today also. They have their meal and then ice cream and cake.

Be still my heart..Bold Springs Baptist Church is having 2 fund raisers. A fried fish and shrimp meal for tomorrow and 'HAMBURGERS' on Monday. Oh man. If I wasn't on the strict 'don't eat anything that you like, cause it's not good for you' diet I'd have me one of those delicious burgers.Sigh*

The Farmers Market will be held every other Saturday and this coming Saturday is the next one.Hope they have more stuff than what they did last time. They had one guy selling squash out of the back of his truck. I was hoping to get some farm fresh eggs and some fresh veggies and maybe some peaches and blue berries..nope.

VFW Post is having a pancake breakfast this Sunday. They are selling pancake breakfasts for $5 a plate with eggs, sausage, bacon, coffee, juice and milk. The money raised will help bring the American Veterans Traveling
Wall to West. The over all cost is $10,000 and they have raised $4,000 so far.

"Squeeze-Off" is set for this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the West VFW Hall. the scheduled activities include an open mike session throughout the day with no admission charged for those wanting to attend. A swap and shop for accordions and electronics is also planned. There will be free food and drinks.

Senior Friends group schedules June 21 benefit for Aquila infant. The money will go to Key'lee who has been diagnosed with hypo-plastic left heart syndrome and had heart surgery at the age of 5 days. She also had a second surgery recently and will need further surgeries. The Senior Friends will be selling BBQ brisket plates at $7.00 a plate. Cake will be sold by the slice and by the cake. I have volunteered to deliver them to who ever wants to buy them and Anissa is going to take orders for me up at Czech Stop.

Well, it's that time of the year again. Third Annual Czech-Splosion fireworks extravaganza will be held on July 3 next to th
e Czech Inn.
They are joining in with the West Main Street. The first year we had 3,000 and last year we had 4,000. It was so cool. Anissa and I had a great time. There is a fireworks ban but since we're not within that district, it won't apply to us.
The fireworks will be the high light of the night, but they also will be selling popcorn and sodie pop beginning at 7:45 p.m. with the fireworks starting about 8:45. There is no charge to watch the show and its just one of the ways for the city to say thank you to the fine citizens of West.

West Library is having their summer reading events again this year on Wed. Anyone living in West that has small kids(and large) should bring them to the Library on Wed from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. It includes crafts and snacks and is free to area children. The last one they had was about science and the Tale Tellers put on a terrific show. The librarian was telling me all about it and she was so impressed and tickled at how great it turned out. The Tale Tellers have 12 new recruits and Nancy said they are really doing a terrific job.
The teens discussed such topics as voice projection, enunciation, book selection, presentation, organization and crafts. They also have puppet making and Marissa really likes that. She does a lot of the art work and does a wonderful job. Of course I'm not biased. They brainstormed and some of the topic themes are Fiesta Fiasco, The Mad Scientist (this past Wed.)Friendship Day, and many more. I'l
l keep you updated on them as they are so wonderful I want to make sure everyone knows about them.

On June 22, 2011..The Point West Bank(my bank) and West will be celebrating Raymond L. Nemecek's 100 birthday. He's been on the board of directors for Point West Bank and Trust for many many years. He is about as good a man as you'd ever want to meet. So happy birthday Mr. Nemecek and here's to 100 more.

And just so you don't think that baseball and softball is a Johnny come lately to West. 50 years ago 150 West boys were playing ball. So it's been a big deal in West for a long time.
Which explains why 12 West Trojans were named to all district teams and Garrett Mattlage was chosen in MLB's Amateur draft. He was the District 8-AAA's Most Valuable Offensive Player with a .472 batting average. The switch-hitter slugged in 11 home runs and collected 58 hits. He also had 13 doubles and 2 triples while knocking in 53 runs. He stole 12 bases during the season.
In addition he finished the season with an 8-1 pitching record which included a 2.13 earned run average.
He was chosen in the 39th
round of Major League Baseball's amateur draft by the Kansas City Royals. Maybe we'll have another West kid play for and win the World Series.

You too can live here and root for the West Trojans and Lady Trojans...and live in a 2-bedroom ?bath home, open living room and kitchen with vaulted ceilings, updated, central A/C and heat. great neighborhood, large lot with nice back yard. Extra large garage for $84,900.
cheap at half the price.

http://wwwwendolbloggercom.blogspot.com/

I almost forgot..one of my blogger buddies William came up to West from visiting his daughter in Houston(he's from Colorado Springs, Co.) and got to experience Pizza House of West's fine lunch (Cactus Burger) and a skunk
egg. Babs and I took him next door to the Smoke House and the Bakery and then I drove him all over town so he could see it up close and personal. Even took him to Community Grocery (he met Patsy Patsy Patsy) so he could see our little meat market in back. He's written 2 great posts already about it, and if you'd like to check it out..that's his blog address. It was really neat to show him all the places he'd read about and experience it first hand.

Well, that's all the news fit to print. Have a great Friday tomorrow and an even better weekend..It's been 100-102 every fucking day. 'nuff to piss off the pope.

WEST, TEXAS NEWS FOR 10-27-10

On top of the hassle of having to move for a week and then moving back in we also have the horror of the I-35 expansion. Judas priest..they have traffic backed up from North Loop 340 in Waco/bad to FM 1858 south of West. Which is our exit. Which means we won't be able to just take the exit to the apts. We'll have to drive further down, take the West exit and then double back..feck! I will be just a memory when they get done..10 years or so.
As usual The West Police Department, Volunteer Fire Department and West EMS are going to give away candy to area children starting at 6 p.m. Sunday. I'll try to go down there and take pictures. I always forget or am busy, so will try and get some pictures of the kids in their costumes.
Something new, the West Czech Inn is having handing out candy from 6-8 p.m. this Sunday too.
The little town of Penelope is having their annual Carnival this Saturday at their school. A turkey and dressing meal is planned for 5 p.m. along with Bingo and other games and a raffle.
West Middle School will have a Halloween dance on Saturday in the cafeteria. Admission is $5 and there will be a cash prize for the best costume. Wow, I remember us having school dances in the Cafeteria or the Gym. Long time ago.
Boy Scouts are still collecting cans at the back of St. Mary's Catholic Church. I still want to know what they do with the money.
There is a very interesting article on the front page of the paper about a couple from Axtell. They have a ghost hunting team. The Mclennan County Paranormal Investigations team. They are going to be in Leroy at the Leroy Bank. Which was part of a big scandal back in the 80's I think. The president and Bank declared bankruptcy and every one lost their money. Was really a shocker and a very sad story. The only one that did ok was the president and owner of the bank..Fancy that.
They said they have been to over 40 businesses and homes including The Hippodrome, Jasper's
s Barbecue, Waco's Civic Theater and the Dr Pepper Museum. Mike and Cindy Jacobus went to one house where the owner was being woken in the middle of the night by horrible screams and some of their smaller belongings were missing. They found 4 raccoons had broken in and were living behind the walls with a plastic bag full of their belongings. Jasper's barbecue had a shadow moving very fast and was picked up on the monitors. Civic Center had a white mist and doors slamming. The new owner of the Leroy Bank is going to remodel it and make a Lowe's Chicken Bank(really) and there have been sightings of something white passing by the windows and weird lights. Which reminds me of when I was a kid living in San Antonio and there was a haunted house out in the middle of no where. 3-story house and on the top level was a very strange and weird blue light. So me, soon to be Asshole #1, his sister and her boyfriend and (another long and even weirder story) my mother, went to check it out. It was so creepy, and my mother who kept hiding in closets and then jumping out at us had us scared shitless. We went up to the 3-rd story and we could see the eerie weird blue light shining under the door of the room at the end of the hall. We were shaking in our boots except for mother who kept making ghost sounds...'whoooo'
and "it's going to kill us all."..we finally got nerve to throw open the door and it was weird alright..in the corner of the room was a huge neon Lone Star Beer sign.
Any how after they rid the Bank of the ghosts and make it into a Chicken Bank, ole Babs and I will have to check it out.
Leann Laubert and Nathan Kaluza were married on October 16, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
The best part of this story is they both work in Waco but will reside in West. Hot dang.
Ian Michael Volcik was born on October 6, weighing in at 8 pounds 12 ounces and 22 inches long.
West Knights of Columbus is having their 5th Annual Turkey Dinner on Halloween from 11a.m. to??? Turkey and dressing with all the trimmings for $7.00 They will also have uncooked dressing ready to freeze for Thanksgiving or Christmas available for purchase.
Strickly Country is having a Chili Cook Off on Halloween afternoon and I'm tempted to go and be a judge again. But my stomach keeps telling me no..nooo..nooooooooo.
West KC Hall is having Micky and the Motorcars on Nov.13. Wonder if that 's a oldies but goodies band?
West Trojan's football team pulled it together and won last 3 games. They are now tied for first place with Alvarado and have 2 games left. I'm not sure that Devin is playing as he hurt his wrist and has been having some health problems. He's also in deep shit for taking Inky's Jeep out with out permission or a drivers license and rolled and totaled it out. I told Anessa I would have killed him. She said the jeep can be replaced but Devin can't. I said the second I found out he wasn't hurt and was going to live? I'd have killed him.
the Lady Trojans volleyball team is going to play in Bi-District.
St. Mary's had their home coming and Alyssa Roznos and Nathan Chupik were queen and king.
The Texas Guitar Expo and Classic Car and Hot Rod show is planned for November 13 and 14 at West Fraternal Auditorium. There will be new and vintage guitars, accessories and music memorabilia along with live music. Tickets are $7 per day or $10 for both.
The Westfest membership meeting is on November 10 in the West Community Center. Fellowship is to begin at 6 p.m. with a meal at 6:45 p.m. and the meeting at 7:30 p.m. Applications requesting funding are to be approved at the meeting. Comments on the 2010 Westfest and suggestions for the 2011 even are requested. Babs pointed this out to me and said you want to see changes get involved. I want to go but I know I'll last about 30 minutes before I tell someone to fuck themselves. They don't like change and they don't realize that each year is going to have less and less crowds if they don't change. My big thing is considering that the parade we have is the largest parade per capita in the US, they should go out of their way to get some one noted to be the grand marshal. I think way back when they had Anne Richards as the parade marshal. I think because it's a Czech thing they should find some famous Czech to be the marshal. There are a bunch of Czech basketball players, tennis players and even actors. It wouldn't be so hard for them to have someone beat the bushes for some Czech that would enjoy coming to West and be reminded of their heritage. My first thought was Martina Navratilova. I don't think they'd care if she was gay or not. Most of the old farts still think it means really happy. Anyhow I'll let you know what happens.
West Food Mart has some good sales. Dr Pepper 3 12-packs for $9, and Boston Butt Pork Roast for $1.29 and 3-minute oats for .99. I love oatmeal. Community Grocery has cabbage on sale for 39 cents a pound..I love cabbage. I just like to boil it up and serve it with salt/pepper and butter. Hey, maybe I have some Czech in me. (don't even go there)
Ok..there is more news but nothing that exciting and I have to go watch the Rangers kick the Giants ass. hot diggy doggy.

WEST, TEXAS NEWS 5/6/10

Lots and lots of action in West for the next couple of weeks..Local city and school elections are Saturday. I will vote for Tommy Muska for sure. I'm still up in the air about the other two. I think C.W. Cernosek is a horses ass so I'm sure I won't be voting for him.
Tractors of all shapes and sizes are going to be participating in the Saturday's Tractor and Truck pull, which is sponsored by the West Volunteer Fire Department at the Westfest track. I must be more of a city girl than I thought as the idea of watching a tractor pull puts me to sleep.zzzz
Only in West,Texas. We are having a Spring Fling which will combine a garage sale and an outdoor movie. The West Chamber of Commerce's first-ever city-wide garage sale and family movie night. It's scheduled for May 15 on the property next to the Czech Inn. The event will include a garage sale from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and a free outdoor family night beginning around dark.
David Pareya said that 25 individual booths for the even have already been rented and 11 commercial vendor spots have also been rented. (I think the Library is having their annual book sale there too.) The chamber is also planning a free outdoor movie, courtesy of Associated Concrete Contractors of West for that night beginning at dark and is to be shown on a giant 30 foot by 40 foot screen. Plans are to show the Disney movie UP. There will be a food booth with full concessions throughout the day. The food is to include hot dogs, sausage wraps, nachos, fried ice cream(this is Texas, you know there had to be something fried.) and of course, ice cream. Soft drinks will also be available. "It will be just like a real night out at the movies. Just bring your lawn chairs and blankets," Pareya said. There will be no admission charge for the movie and there is also free parking, restroom facilities and the event will be wheelchair accessible.
I really think this is cool. I love that they are doing it and hope it will be a regular thing. Not so much the garage sale but the outdoor movie. I love the idea of outdoor movies, and makes me remember all the drive in movies I went to as a kid and all of the ones I took my kids to. Good times.
Plus the West Main Street's first-ever Mayfest celebration in the city is scheduled to highlight arts and craft, music and food in the city's downtown area on May 21 and 22. Spivey Crossing will kick-off the event from 7-9 p.m. May 21 and they will perform in the second floor of the Nors Sausage and Burger House.(old spittoon cafe). The Fall Creek Vineyard from Tow, Texas, the Texas Legato Winery from Lampasas and the Chisolm Trail Winery will be represented for a wine tasting event and sales. Chuck Wagon cooking is also to be on display at the even, courtesy of sponsor West Feeds, on Mayfest Saturday. The Wishbone Wagon will be selling authentic chuck wagon food and giving demonstrations during the day. "All the proceeds from this will go to Main Street," Susie Price said.
Along with the Chuck Wagon food, restaurants in the area will be open to help provide food for those coming to Mayfest. Downtown merchants are also to be open for the event and Main Street is asking residents to try to keep their businesses open during the afternoon on May 23.

The beans are to be cooked at home and brought to the even for 1 p.m. judging.Plaques are to be presented to the three top winners.(hm,I might enter my Julio Beans)
In addition on May 23, Bill Hearne and his Trio will be performing Texas Swing and Austin country-type music from 6-9 p.m. in the Nors Sausage and Burger House.
hot dang..sounds like West is going to be swinging..y'all come on down ya'hea?
