1970..DADDY TO THE RESCUE

...(Dec. 1969)David and Thom deplaned about 8pm at the Roswell, New Mexico airport...I circled for awhile and crashed about 30 minutes later...Hepatitis has a way of zapping you no matter how hard you try to be alert...Be alert I always say...the world needs more lerts...
You have
to know that my Daddy was the Flight Chief at the airport that we had just landed at and when the 3 of us came tumbling off the plane I am sure that my Daddy wished he had bought us Grayhound tickets instead of airplane tickets..David and Thom were 5 and 3 1/2.They both were dressed in bell bottoms, turtle neck sweaters, cowboy boots and parka type coats..They both had hair down to the middle of their back with beaded head bands.. I had on a red turtle neck, red/black/white plaid bell bottoms, barefoot(carrying my apache style fringed boots)my naturally blond hair was dyed black, had it in braids with head band, rings on every finger and several toes, a belt of tiny bells around my waist, a fringed leather vest and dragging a full length fake fur coat behind me on the tarmack...Daddy took one look at us, walked up ..gave the boys long hard hugs, gave me 'the look' and said:"get in the car." Remeber folks this is the retired Master Sargent, new boss of the Airport...he da man...I think he was more upset with the long hair on the boys than the fact that his daughter looked like a cross between Cher and Pocahontas...We went home and I went to sleep and when I woke up the next morning the boys had military haircuts.(they were still crying, but Daddy had bought them each a string of lolly pops and they were so high on sugar they were bouncing off the walls....they had never had any candy before except for milk chocolate..so they thought their Grandpa was a pretty cool dude, except for this thing he had about long hair)
I won't go into any details of the ups and downs of recovery, getting
well, getting a job, getting my own place and adjusting to life in New Mexico after Portland, Oregon cause it wasn't a bowl of cherries..I will say that my Daddy was the best...he was soooooo square....so out of touch..so not able to deal with me but did everything he could and bounced back after each little smack up side his head..Like sitting on the porch watching his grandsons play 'narks and heads'.....or sitting on the toilet while they took baths and sang their favorite song to him...'Marihuana, marihuana LSD,LSD, college kids make it, high school kids take it...why can't we...why can't we..."I thought Daddy was going to faint right on the spot..Poor Daddy, he would give me this long lecture on the evils of drugs...my responsiblities to me and my kids, changing my ways, yada yada yada....pop a valium and trot off to work..but we got through it...
and mean while..back at the White House ...Tricky Dicky and ole Spiro were in charge of the country....Yeah, that worked out so
well...hell I thought I was the one fucked up, but even I couldn't fuck up as bad as them yahoo's...
The U.S.
forces invaded Cambodia on May 1st..A Palestinian revolt erupted in Jordan. Forces loyal to King Hussein suppresssed the revolt and expelled the PLO from the country.
Earthquake in Peru kill 50,000. Egyptian President Nassar dies and is repla
ced by Anwar el-Sadat.
Four stud
ents at Kent State University in Ohio are slain by National Guards at demonstration, protesting the invasion into Cambodia.
The only redeeming part of 1970 is the rocking ass music..St
ill a little hippy shit, some goofy pop by the Jackson 5, and The Osmonds...
But no
w we are starting to rock and roll...we're starting to 'tighten up.'....get down, get groovy, get it on..faaaaar out...and outa' sight...Ok, lets get the pop shit out of the way first...we had the Jackson 5 with ABC, I Found That Girl, I Want You Back and I'll Be There.'They Long to be, Close to you and We've only Just Begun.'by the Carpenters.'Fancy' by Bobby Gentry,'Patches' by Clarence Carter and'A Little Bit of Soap' by Paul Davis.Eric Clapton sang 'After Midnight', Diana Ross said "Aint' No Mountain High Enough',and R.B. Greaves said'Always Something There To Remind Me.'oh, oh oh.....!! The Guess Who's 'American Woman,'And When I Die' by Blood Sweat and Tears...I think David Thomas has one of the greatest voices ever...'Are you Ready?' by Pacific Gas & Electric, 'Arizona,' by Mark Lindsay, 'Band Of Gold' by Freda Payne and one of my all time favorites then and now..'Black Magic Woman' by Santana..'Bridge over Troubled Water'by Simon and Garfunkle, 'Call Me' by Aretha, 'Candida' by Tony Orlando and Dawn, plus one of the greatest songs ever ever ever....'Closer to Home'by Grand Funk Railroad....damn I love that song..

Van Morrison sang about 'Domino' and 4 Flights Up sang 'Do What You
Wanna Do.'....CCR rocked the house with a bunch of songs...'Up Around The Bend, Down On the Corner, Looking out My Back Door and Who'll Stop the Rain......damn I love CCR...Simon and Garfunkle sang such a great song'El Condor Pasa'....'Woodstock, Treat Your Children Well, and Ohio by Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Can you get any better? TAKE THAT, YOUR HIP HOP RAPPING ASSHOLES...And can you belive....that's not the half of them?....'See Me Feel Me' by the Who, The Nity Grity Dirt Band sang the hell out of Jerry Jeff Walker's song 'MR. Bojangles'...I saw Jerry Jeff in Austin one time knock the shit out of a cowboy who kept razzing him about how he spent the $50 he got for that song...Like Willie Nelson who sold Family Bible, and Night Life for $50 each..song writers were so poor they sold their songs for what ever they could get...It doesn't bother Willie, but it sure does piss ole Jerry Jeff off...
'One
Less Bell To Answer' by the 5th Dimension,'My Sweet Lord' by George Harrison, 'Ride Captain Ride' by Blues Image, 'Na Na-Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye' by Stream and another favorite of mine 'No Time' by the Guess Who.oooooooohoooooh, and 'Ohhh Child' by the 5 Stairsteps...love that song..
Three
Dog Night had'Out in the Country,Eli's Coming, and Mama Told Me Not To Go' ....I have a special place in my heart for 3 Dog Night...my best friend Roxie and I were working one night at the Palm Garden and they were playing some place in the city (PORTLAND) and they came in to see our band, which was an absolutely excellent band, they went on to play Vegas(they did a show bedsides just playing)a lot...( I actually saw them in Vegas and dammd if they didn't remember me..actually when they saw me...they all started in saying'those tits, those legs that smile..it's gotta be.....'JackieBaby'..)(my nickname)Made me feel pretty fucking good..ha..anyhow...2 of the 3 dogs came in...stayed till closing then the 2 'stars'of our band, Roxie,me and the 2 dogs went out and partied...oh my goodness....drugs and rock and roll...sorry ya'll, but no sex...hard to have sex with someone when he is counting your freckles and your discovering a planet on his forhead...ahh, the good ole days....
'Signed Sealed Delivered I'm Yours' by Stevie Wonder
,"Somethings Burning' by Kenny Rogers and the 1St Edition, and another favorite of mine'Spirit In The Sky'by Norman Greenbaum, 'Sugar Sugar' by Wilson Pickett, 'Up On Cripple Creek' by The Band,'War' by Edwin Starr, and 'The Wonder of You' by ole Elvis.....'The Thrill is Gone' by B.B. "VERRRRRRY INTERESTING...BUT SCHTUPIT."

Yes, boys and girls it's time for the Laugh In Show, brought to you from beautiful downtown Burbank....Yup, every week I waited eagerly for the voice of Gary Owens to announce the Laugh In show..man..that was some tv...It was on NBC from '68-73...The name Laugh In came from the hippy scene of 'love in's, be-in's, or even sit-in's....it was some of the best comedy done by some of the funniest people ever gathered in one show before or since...well, maybe the Show of Show's was better. But it was 140 episodes of fun for me...and can't tell you how many times I have watched in in reruns....
Some of the regulars were of course Dan Rowan and Dick Martin the hosts of the show..Dan played the stright guy and Dick was the bumbling horny jokester..Plus Gary Owen the announc
er, Ruth Buzzi, Judy Carne(who was married to Burt Reynolds at the time), Eileen Brennan, Goldie Hawn,Arte Johnson,Henry Gibson, Alan Sues, Joanne Worley, Charlie Brill, Chelsea Brown, Dave Madden, Teresa Graves,LIly Tomlin,Richard Dawson,Moosie Drier and Jud Strunk(I have an album by him with one of my favorite songs on it called "Daisy A Day.")
Regular guests were Jack Benny, Johnny Carson,Sammy Davis Jr.,Zsa Zsa Gabor, Peter Lawford, Tiny Tim,John Wayne, Flip Wilson and Henny Youngman.
The list of guests stars is as long as my rig
ht tit...Don Adams, Steve Allen, James Caan, Sonny Bono,Peter Falk, Mel Brooks,James GArner, Smothers Brothers, Phil Silvers, Peter Sellers, Paul Lyne, Jerry Lewis and of course ..who could forget former President Richard Milhouse Nixon standing on that stage saying"sock it to me"....
I loved all t
he bits...the Flying Fickle Finger of Fate Award, the Beautiful Downtown Beauties, the cocktail party, letters to Laugh In,Laugh In's Look At The News, the gags written on the bikinied girl, the joke wall, and my very very very favorite...the Farkle Family..they all looked alike with red hair. The girls had red pigtails, and they all wore red/white checkered clothes...There were Simon and Gar Funkle, Fanny Farkle, and Fred Farkle AND I think there were more.....I was staying with my Daddy at the time(escape from Portland, 1970..) and he bought the boys a little female Beagle...we named her Fanny Farkle against my Daddy's wishes..she got lose from the boys on a walk and ran out in front of a car and got ran over..Daddy said she threw her self under the car cause she couldn't stand being called Fanny Farkle any more...could be right...
Some of
the characters played by Arte Johnson were my favorites. He played Wolfgang a Nazi soldier who would pop out of the bushes and say..."verry interesting...but schtupit..At end of show he would talk to Lucille Ball and Gunsmoke.(their shows ran opposite Laugh In on CBS)I guess my favorite character was Tyrone F. Horneigh the dirty old man who was always making moves on Ruth Buzzi's character Gladys Ormphby with the hair net on her head...My favorite come on line to her by Arte was:"Do you belive in the here after?"...and Gladys said "Yes, of course I do."...and he said:"Then you know what I'm here after.".... and she would beat the shit out of him with her purse..still cracks me up...
He also played Rosneko the eastern european guy who compared America with the old country...he did Rabbi Shankar which was a pun on Ravi Shankar..and his mad little
guy in the yellow rain slicker on the tricyle that he rode into things, crashed and fell over..
Ruth Buzzi besides playing Gladys also played Mrs. Swizzle a seedy barfly and B
usy Busby a Hedda Hopper/Loula Parson gossip columnist..and if you don't know who Hedda and Loula are, what the fuck are you doing reading this old farts post?...
Henry Gibson was the poet, he held a big flower and recited his poems...He pronounced his name Hennk Ibsen. He was also the Reverend at the cocktail parties..
Lily Tomlin was the obnoxious Ernestine who worked for the phone company
..."One ringy-dingy....two ringy-dingy....is the person to whom I am talking to?"...little Edith Ann, "and that's the truth...pbbbbbbbt."... and the tasteful society matron Mrs. Earnborn.Who would sit in a chair with her legs ankles crossed and after she gave her little speil she would pull her feet apart and when she stood up her legs would be agape and could see all the way to Wisconsin.
Alan Sues was Big Al the clueless fey sports anchor, who loved his bell which he called his tinkle...and
hung over children's host Uncle Al the Kiddies Pal...Joanne Worley sang in falsetto opera style and told chicken jokes...Goldie Hawn was the giggly dumb blond who could never remember or read her lines correctly...later on she said they delibertly wrote them wrong, so she would giggle...oh man...it was just the best...Judy Carne saying 'Sock it to Me'..and gettin a bucket of water tossed on her...Sammy Davis Jr. saying 'here comes da judge...here comes da judge.'....Was this one of the greatest tv shows of all times???????

YOU BET YOUR BIPPY.........

PUT THAT IN YOUR FUNK AND WAGNER..

that was going to be the title of my post this evening and was going to be on LAUGH IN... one of my all time favorite tv shows...but something happened and it will have to be tomorrow's post..as today I'm going to jump up on my soap box...jeez I hate this..Some one commented on one of my post..I usually don't remove or delete comments...and if I knew how to delete this one I wouldn't be posting on this at all..would just delete it and move on..but I can't and so I find myself having to make a big fucking deal out of it..and it bothers me as I really like the person that made the comment...This person was talking about one of my thumps on forest and in making his statement this person used the term 'fag'....where do I start without coming off like an asshole...(yeah, like that would be a new experience).....I don't like the fact that someone that I like thought it would be ok to make a statement like that on my blog and think it would be ok with me...well......it's not...you want to put someone down..fine..call them an asshole, a dickhead, a dickwad, a fucktard..anything you would like...but please on my blog ..do not use words that are discriminatory to my friends...thank you very much..as as I have said before... if this is not ok with you....well, read my profile again...you can email me and call ME names if it makes you feel better...but don't mess with my friends...

1969..WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?...WHADYA MEAN YOUR MY HUSBAND...?

Yes, this is the year of the acid marriage...I met Bill C. at Charlie's bar. The place I went to work for after I decided to leave the Palm Gardens. Before I kicked my boss'S new wife's ass. I had already insulted her while drunk several times...and although 'Boss' had thought it was funny, I could see the handwriting on the wall of the women's bathroom..it would end up being me or her having to go and since I had no plans of giving him a blowjob I was pretty sure it would be me..I hated to go, as I am so loyal, and 'boss' had given me a job when I had no experince and was so 'green' I don't know how the bartenders put up with me..other than for laughs... knew it was for the best..so off I went to Charlie's where most of the customers were the Staff of the DA..and other assorted lawyers, clerks, etc..they found me really different from the other bartenders they had run across and I doubled charlie's business in less than 2 weeks...Plus I made the best Hot Buttered Rum's in Portland..They thought I was so 'kinky' that all of the DA's staff came into the bar wearing black masks, black gloves and carrying whips in tribute to me..The DA would come in every now and then just to see if what they were saying about me was true...he'd have one or two martini's, check me out and then leave shaking his head...They even had a plaque made for me that said TO JACKIE BROWN, SHE HAS THE FASTEST FUCK YOU'S IN TOWN..so sweet..
While working at Charlie's I discovered acid...ohhh, I loved it.
I met
Bill while on a acid trip and he fell in love. He was a merchant marine, 2nd electrician on a victory boat that went to Vietnam..he was funny and weird...but nothing to write home about.(oh, did I mention he was 15 years older than me???)but he decided I was the one he was going to settle down with..He didn't want any more kids and thought my ready made family of 2 boys was perfect..he asked me to marry him that day..I said yea, yea....have another beer...I was tripping at work..I had actually taken it the night before, but I was still going strong(chocolate chip was the name)and that night when I got off work I decided that maybe it would be better if Pat my babysitter kept the boys for the entire night and she said they were going to zoo next day and just let the boys stay and go with them and spend the weekend..said cool...she had boys same age as mine and they were best friends...so I went home and next morning Bill called and asked me if I wanted to go to Reno...duh sure...had started to mellow out so took some orange sunshine...by the time he picked me up I was on the 3rd star next to the planet "wheeeeeeee"...so off we go to Reno with 2 of his friends. The next morning I wake up in hotel room in Reno married to Bill...no memory of anything.. I do remember being someplace where I yelled "stop, these fucking shoes are killing my feet."..he said yea, that was in middle of ceremony...So...I'm married..Big....big big..mistake..Not that he wasn't a nice guy cause he was..and he was great with my boys..He bought me anything I wanted, took me through Canada all the way to Alaska in a 16 foot camper, with a gold panning machine and 75 books...It was beautiful country and one of the most horrible experiences of my life...many many miles from my sons, friends, and civilization with a guy I really didn't know. He had neglected to tell me that I was either his 11th or 12th wife..he wasn't sure...That was comforting...We had sex twice...one cause I thought well hell, we are married..and the second time just to make sure he was as bad as I thought and it wasen't a fluke..no fluke...it was awfull...lucky for me he didn't like to have sex so it worked out for me as I didn't want to have sex with him either...Only reason we stayed married as long as we did (about 18 months) was because he shipped out to Vietnam for 6-8 weeks at a time..
I had worked my way up from bennies, to acid to meth... plus I coul
d really drink...but I never missed a day's work or missed spening my free time with my sons..no matter what..but it was getting harder and harder..while I was falling apart and not keeping an eye on things...the country elected Richard M. Nixon as the president..fuckity fuck fuck fuck...Apollo 11 went to the moon and Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin, and Michael Collins got to walk on it..I was the only one with a color tv(thanks to Bill) so everyone came to my house and we watched it..Wow...it was amazing..just like Buck Rogers..(only you old farts will get the reference)and not to long after a bunch of my hippy friends came over and we dropped acid and watched Bob Dylan on the Johnny Cash show...wow...that was cool...then we watched an old black and white western and we got so freaked out from all the shooting we hid behind the couch..popping out every now and then to shout'behind you cowboy..it's the bad guy'...
Edward Kennedy pleads guilty to leaving the scene of fatal accident
at Chappaquiddick, Mass. in which Mary Jo Kopechne was drowned. He got a 2 months suspended sentence.
Sesame made it's debut on tv....and the greatest rock festival ever was held.WOODSTOCK
...
if I could have I would have gone..my girlfriend Shady Lane went and said it was mud and dope smoking hippies having sex out in the open..no big deal...but still to see Janis, Jimi, Country Joe, Richie Havens,The Who, and many many more..well...Only two regrets...didn't get to make the peace march with Martin Luther King Jr. and didn't get to go to Woodstock...
OHHHH the music..5th Diminsion sang 'Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine
IN'..Elvis was still in there singing 'In the Getto,' Tony James and the Shondells sang Crimson and clover...(I loved that song)
'Dont Give In To HIm'and 'This Girl Is A Woman Now' by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap.'Every Day People' by Sly and the Family Stone. The Beatles were pumping them out...'The Ballad of John and Yoko,' 'Get Back', 'Something',and 'Come Together.....right now....over me....'....damn..the were good.oh, and another favorite..'Get Ready' by Rare Earth.John Lennon had a single....'Give Peace A Chance'...yeah, like that is going to happen..'Whole Lotta Love and Good Time, Bad Time' by Led Zeppelin.
First time I heard whole lotta love I freaked fucking out...There's you a rock and roll song..Stones had 'Honky Tonk Woman' and Marvin Gaye 'Heard it Through The Grapevine'...and a song that for some reason struck a cord with me and is still one of my very favorite songs..'In The Year 2525'....by Zager and Evans...
Bob Dylan rocked our world with 'Lay Lady Lay'...and 'My Cherie
Amour' by Stevie Wonder...Does anyone remember when he first started out he was "Little Stevie Wonder"?....'Pinball Wizzard' by The Who..'Proud Mary' by CCR, and another great song'Rain drops Keep Falling On My Head', by B.J.Thomas...Crosby Stills and Nash(no Young yet) sang about 'Judy Blue Eyes'(judy collins)..'Sugar Sugar' by the Archies... and another favorite'Marrakesh Express' by Graham Nash.During all of this I was dealing with my drinking, drugging and trying to hold it all together..finally at the end of December I made a call to my Daddy back in Roswell, New Mexico...I said:"I'm sick and I need help."..Daddy said:"There will be 3 tickets at the airport first thing in the morning..."..Daddy's are like that...
