WEST, BY GODDESS, TEXAS NEWS

Kelsey Hoelscher was selected from 3 contestants for the new Miss West. Tori Allred was first runner-up and Ale Almanza was second runner-up. I don't have to tell you that I think West has the lovelies young ladies in the state of Texas. That goes for our Lady Trojans too.

The West Lady Trojans will begin their playoff run this Saturday as they play the Graham lady Blues in an Area playoff series. The first game of this series is set for 7 p.m. at Boswell High School in Fort Worth.Game two of the series is set for 5 p.m. Saturday at the same field in Fort Worth. Game three, if necessary, is to follow at 7 p.m. at the same location.
The winner of this Area playoff series is to play the winner of the Burkburnett-Mineral Wells series at a time and place to be determined. The Lady Trojans are going into the playoffs with a 21-8 season record after finishing district with a 10-0 record.
I'm not sure, but I think this is at least the 3rd year in a row that The Trojans have made it to the playoffs. It may be more. And if they go this year to finals it will be the 3rd year in a row..I truly believe they are not to be denied this year. I think we're winning it all.

The West  Trojans continue preparations for the playoffs as the Area playoffs are a week away. By virtue of their first place finish in District 8-AAA, the Trojans received a bye from playing this week in the Bi-District playoff series.

City Hall among top sites for the West Museum.
Over 70 residents discussed the possibility of a History of West Musuem for the city on the second floor of city Hall during an April 24 town meeting in the West Community Center.
The Mayor, Tommy Muska said it would cost approximately $250,000 to renovate the City Hall's second story for the museum. The various estimates are elevator(lift) from the first floor to the second floor to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations, $50,000: air conditioning and heating, $34,000: new electrical wiring along with public restrooms(both floors), $43,000: plumbing, $46,000, painting, $21,000; carpentry, $35,000; floor refinishing, $12,000; and $22,000 for a drop ceiling or $20,000 for an open ceiling exposing duct-work.
Mayor Muska said the next step is to get a structural engineer to look at the City Hall Building to make sure it can withstand what they are trying to do.
The museum committee is envisioning six distinct galleries which include West history, Czech heritage, Military-Veterans, Urbanovsky Studio, Museum Outlaws and along with a gallery for rotating exhibits.Georgia Hutyra  in giving a brief explanation of the potential museum galleries, she explained that the West history gallery could include the people, railroad, businesses, government, Black community, churches and schools which comprise the city.
Ideas for the Czech heritage gallery would include the Czechoslovakian traditions, music, food, costumes and cultural impact on West today.
The committee's vision for the Military and Veterans gallery could include a tribute to the men and women who served to protect our freedom.
The Urbanovsky Studio gallery is expected to pay tribute "to the men who recorded the history of West through their pictures and cameras.
Georgia further reported the committee has looked at the possibility of featuring the signatures of area teens made on the stage walls during the 1950's and 1960's. She said they looked at various names for this area and have so far named it the Museum Outlaw Gallery.

There are many ideas on how to raise the money and I'm so proud of West for doing this..The people of West that have lived her all their lives and raised their families here have such a pride in their community. I had intended to go to the meeting, but I'm a birdbrain and completely forgot. I need to get a calendar and mark it just for West events. I may put up something from West and have you guys bid on it. Thought maybe the West Czech Heritage Cook Book, some t-shirts, mugs, etc.

Due to the amazing turnout for it's recent art show, the West Public Library is now in the planning stages of organizing a doll show. If anyone has specialty dolls  to display and does not mind sharing them with the community, please contact the library at 826-3070. I think I might ask Nancy if they would be interested in my 2 headed doll. It has a White Head and you flip it over and turn down the skirt and it has a black doll. They are rare.

I'm in full agreement; the young women of West are really beautiful!! And I know one (only slightly) older one that is a beauty too.

I hope the Lady Trojans go all the way (on the field, winning games, I mean...)

The museum sounds pretty neat. I wish things were so expensive these days. $250,000 in renovations... but you can buy a whole house there for $117,500? Something (as always with our gubermint) doesn't sound right...

I seem to remember that the Lady Trojans have been in it every year since I came home. It would be cheaper to put up a prefab building for the museum but bringing the Courthouse up to code would be nice too.
You forgot the most important birth announcement. :P

Hmmmm, an acreage in West sounds lovely! (And about a half the price of one here!)

I would totally bid on a Czeck cookbook and a coffee mug to help raise money.

Our town has a great museum in one of the vintage old houses. That wasn't terribly expensive to bring up to code.
