ONE-SHOT GUN SHOP

The entire article is in the DAM News and is by William Booth from the Washington Post.
I'm not doing the entire post, but stealing some of the better parts..

In all of Mexico, there is only one gun store.(one fucking gun store..not one per city, or one per state.................ONE FUCKING GUN STORE IN THE ENTIRE FUCKING COUNTRY.)
The shop, known officially as the Directorate of Arms and Munitions Sales, is operated by the Mexican military. The clerks wear pressed green camouflage. They are soldiers.
The only gun store in Mexico is not very busy.(why should it be busy? When they can cross the border or have their 3rd cousins sisters son-in-laws, daughter(wearing a very low cut t-shirt with I love the NRA on it) go to a gun show and buy as many fucking guns that they want and then smuggle it across the border to them.)
To go shopping for a gun in Mexico, customers must come to Mexico City--even if they live 1,300 miles away in Ciudad Juarez. To gain entry to the store, which is on a secure military base, customers must present valid identification, pass through a metal detector, yield to the wand and surrender cellphones and cameras.
To purchase a gun, clients must submit references and prove that their income is honestly earned, their record is free of criminal charges and their military obligations, in any, have been completed with honor. They are finger-printed and photographed, and, if judged worthy of owning a small caliber weapon to protect home and hearth, they are allowed to buy just one, and a box of bullets.
Mexico has some of the toughest gun-control laws in the world. Mexicans are proud of this. Yet Mexico is awash in weapons.(mostly either bought or stolen from the USA.)
In Mexico, Lt.Col. Raul Manzano Velez, director of the gun shop, knows with precision his annual sales figures. On average, the military has sold 6,490 firearms each year since 2006. Legal gun sales are decreasing, even as seizures of illegal weapons soar.(duh!)
Daniel Mendoza came to buy a guy and when asked if the gun-control laws were working, Mendoza said, "Ask the criminals."
Less than 1 percent of the guns sold end up in the hands of criminals.( Why? in Mexico it is easier to buy a gun on the black market.
In the shop there are 2 rooms. The first room is labeled "Police Sales Only." It's filled with weapons that ordinary citizens cannot legally buy. The second room offers a wide selection of U.S. and European shotguns and rifles for hunting and competition.
There is a display for small-caliber handguns exclusively for domestic protection, in calibers no greater than .38. These guns are legally allowed only at home.
Members of the military, police and security firms are exempt from the hand-gun control law that applies to the general public.
Another bit of information that shows what Mexico and the U.S. are dealing with is that the Mexican forces have captured more than 93,000 weapons in 4 years. Mexican authorities insist that 90 percent of those weapons are smuggled from the US. The U.S. and Mexican governments have worked together to trace 73,000 seized weapons, but both refuse to release the results of the traces.(If they know where they are coming from why not shut the fuckers down, or fine them so much money that they won't be so eager to sell to someone they know is going to be smuggling them into Mexico.)
More information...There are more than 6,600 federally licensed firearm dealers on the U.S. side of the border. At least 14 million guns are thought to have been sold in the United States in 2009, according to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. But no one knows the exact number.
judas fucking priest. I am not for banning guns, or not being able to buy guns if you are going hunting, or even if you collect handguns, shot guns, etc. But no one is ever going to be able to give me a reasonable explanation why it's okay to buy machine guns, and automatic weapons, and to buy dozens of them, along with armor piercing bullets. I think there should be stricter gun laws. When any yoyo can buy 6-12 automatic weapons (sorry I don't know the names of them)with just a drivers license for I.D. and cash in hand, there has to be a better way. I am going to piss people off with this but fuck..there has to be a better way. We're so worried about smugglers bringing in weed, that we forget that the border works both ways and they are smuggling into Mexico shit that is far more dangers than fucking weed..sigh*...ok..let the emails sending begin.

I agree with you: there SHOULD be a better way.

I don't know what it is, though....

I agree with you 100%! We have a lot of crap happening in this country in which there should be a better way.

14 million in 2009 alone! That's several armys worth of guns. Already out there. So according to that, in just the last ten years, 140 million guns were sold in the U.S. Now how in the held do you deal with that? I am afraid the truth is, Pandora's box has been opened, and there ain't no putting the beast back in it. It's craziness.

"Mexico has some of the toughest gun-control laws in the world."

And so theoretically (according to gun controllers) - It should be a wonderful place with no crime, no gun violence an absolute paradise.

But it aint!

It's more like hell on Earth.

I'm just surprised that there's a place with gun laws that are more strict than up here.

You'll get no nasty-grams from me, Chickie. I'm with you. :)

There are probably more AK-47s in the world than there are people.

If all that effort spent on guns had been put to making effective text books and getting them to schools... imagine how things might be...

The USA spends a mindnumbing amount of taxpayer $$$ on weapons, weapon delivery systems (read tanks, boats, and planes)... I suppose its the ultimate "disposable good".
