WEST, BY GODDESS, TEXAS NEWS

They had a really nice celebration for the veterans at the West Rest Haven and I was surprised at how many vets we have there. I salute each and every one of them...

Sixteen groups got an early Christmas present from Westfest. They donated $32,000 to area organizations. It was an increase in donations over last years donation of $27,500. The City of West received $3,500, West Volunteer Fire Dept. $3,500, West Chamber of Commerce $1,000, West Ministerial Alliance $2,000 Boy Scout 494 $750, Boy Scout Venture Crew $500, Cub Scouts 494 $750, West Girl Scouts, $750, Sokol Gymnasts of West, $1,000, West Public Library $2,000, West Baseball/Softball League $2,000, West Senior Citizens Center $1,000, West Volunteer Ambulance Ass. $2,000 West Kiwanis Club, $2,000, West Legacy Education Foundation, $2,000, West Thrift Shop $500, five Westfest Scholarships at $1,000 each, $5,000 and pre-approved donations $2,550
Total festival income was reported at $396,885.07 . The total gross profit from the festival income minus total festival costs is $221,396.78. I'm not going to list which dept made what..but the beer sales was $105,272.22.
The Westfest has been going on now for 36 years...and in that time the festival donations for West and it's organizations is almost $1 million dollars. $951,541 and that's not counting giving the area organizations an opportunity to make money at the various booths each year. Westfest..gotta love it.

The West Community Center will have it's annual Thanksgiving meal this Thursday, starting at 11. Anyone wanting a meal delivered by meals on wheels should call Jennifer Schaffer at City Hall at 826-5351. The event is a combined effort of the West Kiwanis Club with assistance from the West Knights of Columbus. Volunteers are needed to help with preparations for the Thanksgiving meal on that morning and to help in home delivery. Also help is needed at approximately 8 a.m. on the 23rd to help with cutting up the turkeys at the KC Hall. Any one that would like to make food donations are asked to call or contact Jennifer Schaffer at City Hall. Anyone that would like to make a monetary donation can be give to Tim Jaska at the State National Bank. The pies I didn't get to make for Jackie's Kitchen I will make and take up there for Thanksgiving. I like helping, but even after 3 years I can barely get anyone to talk to me. Virgie does...but she's known me for 30 years from the Old Corner Drug Store. Oh well, I'm not doing it for them, I'm doing it to help.
We're had 3 home fires that West is taking donations for and having benefits to raise money for the families of Dan and Jan Willis, Sam and Elaine King and the Kendal and Morris family lost their homes to fires. This is so sad...

The Village Bakery is taking Thanksgiving orders for kolaches, klobasniki, pies, strudels and Buchta's..Which are like strudels but much better.
Wild Bill's Outlaw Steakhouse has a humpday special of a steak burger and a Outlaw Dog, which is a beer battered and deep fried hot dog loaded with cheese, bacon, sauerkraut and chili. Served with fries for $5.99. Now that's a hot dog.

Lylah Urbanovsky is celebrating her 3rd birthday, and what a cutie.

Point West and Trust Bank (my bank) took out a full page ad to proudly recognize Charles j. Nemec for 40 years of loyal service to the bank and the community. I would like to add my own kudos to him. I'm sure he doesn't remember but years ago when I had my little blue jeep I was going thru the drive in to get some money (this is before it was a separate part of the bank and was right next to the bank.) and the clutch spring sprung and the jeep wouldn't move. I was freaking out..it was like the week of Christmas on a Friday and every one was cashing their checks and getting money and I was blocking the mail drive thru window with the jeep..Mr. Nemec came out and helped me push the jeep into the other lane. Now he could have said ok, now get it towed cause it will be blocking traffic on a busy holiday. Nope, what he said was don't worry about it..you get it moved as soon as you can, don't worry about it. It was there for about 4-5 days before I could get someone to come tow it to a show..No one from the bank every called and said come move it..Just another reason why I am so loyal to my bank and they get 3 pumpkin cheesecakes every Christmas.

West High senior Kolby Carpenter signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Oklahoma next fall on a baseball scholarship. 18-year old Carpenter signed with the Oklahoma Sooners during a 10a.m. Nov 9 ceremony in the West High School Gym. The WHS senior is among 15 student-athletes signing with Oklahoma during the early signing period. he was among 11 high school players and four junior college players.
The 6 foot 175 pounded has been a standout for the Trojan baseball team for the past three seasons as both a pitcher and shortstop. he was recruited by the Sooners as a middle infielder. (too bad he couldn't go to a Texas university...sigh*) As a sophomore he was the District 7-AAA's Most Valuable Player and was also Super Centex's Most Valuable Player. he was also an All State selection that year.
Last season, Carpenter was the Most Valuable Defensive Player in District 8-AAA and was a first team Super Centex selection. For the second straight year, he was a first team All State selection. To say we are extremely proud of him is an understatement. We already have a World Series Winner and a Super Bowl winner from West. Keep 'em coming.

50 years ago in West, by Goddess, Texas Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Uptmore celebrated their 50 anniversary. And Roger Kolar won a case of soda pop when he was named safe driver of the month by the student council.

WOW! Lots going on in West.
So many nice things people do for each other in that town, but I don't think the ones that act like you don't exist will ever change.
In 1962 they looked right through me and here it is a year shy of 50 years later. sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Their loss, I say.... cause you and I are gr8 people to know. ;0)

did the safe driver win a case of Dublin Dr. Pepper? Otherwise it wasn't worth all that safe driving.

How come they didn't give you a cash gift for all the promoting you do for West And Westfest?
An electric company is a license to steal so why would someone be selling one?

I hope those Vets at the old folks home is out of lock down by now...

And your bank sounds like an honest to goddess "home town bank" that actually has service that is worth the name - of course three of your pumpkin pies is a lot of reward :)
