WEST, BY GODDESS, TEXAS NEWS

First off I have to tell you about West High School's play of Macbeth done roaring 20's style. The 3 witches are the beautiful flappers (and Mrs Macbeth)you see...the stunning beauty on the left is my intelligent and lovely Miss Marissa Adamson.. My niece by love ..she's also the niece of Inky and the daughter of Mike(Ink's brother) and Sara Adamson. It was a very wonderful production. I saw it Thursday night..was so proud..Nancy the librarian and I argue all the time who is the most responsible for her awesomeness, we refuse to allow the parents any credit at all.
the kid in the white shirt and suspenders is Macbeth and he was really good..wish I could remember his name. They were all good..so professional. I did love the witches/flappers the best..their shrill shrieks and screams of laughter was very funny.
they were in the West News and they used the picture of Marissa to high light the first page...
Since I couldn't make the Friday show, (made the mistake of taking off shoes and bras and said no way Jose)..Anissa/Inky and I split the bill on a arm bouquet of orange roses and carnations..went I went to Donna's she immediately knew who Marissa was and said her favorite flower was orange roses..love small towns.
So she delivered them to the school for her..
The History of West Museum has finally found a permanent home. It will be at the old Ben Franklin building. Which used to be the old Dollar General too. I remember when it was Ben Franklin...I loved it. Was like stepping back into the 50's..old creaky wooden floors..and had a sort of bees wax smell. 30 years later it sort of smelled like cat pee and mildew. So they will have a lot of work to do on it, but it will make a great place for the Museum. Great location and 7,000 square footage. Georgia Hutyra said it will reflect the towns entire history, beginning as early as the 1850's when settlers arrived at Bold Springs, to the railroad and our founding fathers and to the European  immigrants who settled here. It will also showcase our neighboring communities such as Tours, Gholson, Ross an Abbot.
The building was first built in the late 1890's and first housed the George W. Brown Furniture Company. In those days, since there were no funeral homes, Mr. Brown sold coffins along with furniture. Later August Dulock had a restaurant and saloon in the building. The most known business which occupied the building was the Ben Franklin Store, owned and operated by George Smajstrla from 1950 to 1990.The fundraiser is going to be held on April 14 at West KC Hall. The money will be used for the building's renovations. The event is to include a chicken spaghetti dinner with all the trimmings beginning at 11 a.m. with an auction to follow at approximately 12:30 p.m. The meal is priced at Raffle tickets are available from committee members, at the West Public Library or on the day of the fun raiser.
In addition, the West Polka Boys are to entertain and there will be a preview of museum exhibits on display.
"I hope the people will show the same community spirit as they did in the 1980's when raising funds to build the West Library," Nancy Vidrine, a museum and library board member said. "What a wise investment that turned out to be, with over 21,000 books being checked out last year. We must work together again. This time to preserve the town's history for generations to come."
Along with the April 14 fundraiser, the committee reported that cash donations "are very appreciated. Memorials can also be made in the memory of your loved ones by including them in the Museum Memorial Book. They will be remembered during special prayer and Holy Mass."
Donations may be sent to History of West Museum
p.o. Box 535
West, Texas 76691          or phone 254-826-4639 or 254-709-1757. All donations are tax-deductible.
If any one would like to make a donation or buy a raffle ticket(I don't know what they're raffling off) you can send them to the above address. If you would like to make a donation in memory of someone you can do it for my sister Donna Hollingsworth, or Agnes Adamson, (Ink's mom and my best friend) and Ricky Maler.

The West Brethren Church is getting a new steeple. The cross will be going on top of a new copper steeple..It's very pretty.

Tomorrow the town of West will be coming together to lend time and money to help Dani Dulock who was injured in a automobile accident.
She is recovering from a brain injury from the December accident. She was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco and is diagnosed with Diffuse Axonal Injury, a type of injury that will require her to re-learn how to do simple tasks.
She left Hillcrest and was sent to the Texas NEURO-Rehab Center in Austin through January 19. She continues with outpatient rehab at Providence in Waco thru March 28 and is currently under neurological supervision. Dani is a student at Baylor University, she is hoping to go back to Baylor and take a college class this summer. The funds raised will go to defray her medical expenses. It begins at 11 a.m. with a BBQ meal at $8 a plate. Raffle  tickets are being sold now and will also be available at the benefit.. The prizes include a BBQ pit with wok and several other large items.
A silent and live auction are planned as well as a horseshoe pitching tourney. The live auction will begin at 12:30 p.m. Sign-up for the horseshoe pitching tourney is to begin at approximately noon. There will also be a cake walk, face painting and fish pond for the kids.
Donations are appreciated and may be dropped off at Upmore Motors. Cash donations are being accepted at State National Bank, payable to the Dani Dulock Benefit. For more information on the event, contact Jimmy Uptmore 254-722-1449, Joyce Cammack 254-722-7563 or Laura Uptmore 254-717-9002.
We have some new arrivals. Hadley Marie Sinkule at 8 pounds, 4 ounces and 20.5 inches long.
Hunter Joseph Petter welcomed his baby sister, Halleigh Danielle, who weighed in at 6 pounds 15 ounces and 20 inches long.
There is a wonderful article and eulogy in the paper for Edward G. Wendorf. At one time a Austin, Texas newspaper referred to him as "Texas' Toughest Man."

West Food Mart has Boston Butt Pork Roast on sale for .99 cents per pound. Need to go get one and make pulled pork sandwiches.
Community Grocery has Wrights Bacon on sale for $3.99 a pound..Damn I love that stuff.

And once again, just to torture you..Price reduced  3 bedroom, 2 bath brick house built in 2007, 1.08 acre, barn, horse stalls, large backyard, open floor plan. $159,900. Come on down, buy Village Bakery and you can live in the rocking 50's too. That's all the news ...well, Inky and Anissa are buying a house. It's a cutie. One bedroom, carport, pecan trees all over the place..and it has a laundry room off the kitchen and a huge back yard. They have a huge room for the birds and they have settled in nicely. So? You folks need to get the Google Maps car to come through again. That picture of West on Google Maps is pretty poor quality. The town looks much better when you describe it.

I LOVE West News, thank you for still sharing it with us. I wanna move to Texas!
But what is a chicken spaghetti dinner with all the trimmings??

"Mayberry with beer," LOL! That Roaring 20s version of Macbeth sounds VERY interesting. I guess Macbeth would be an Al Capone type character, killing his way to the top of the gang. Actually that's a pretty good analogy for how ancient kings and kingdoms functioned.

Plans for the History of West Museum sound very exciting. Good luck getting rid of the cat piss and mildew smell, ewwww!

I think West is the perfect setting for a movie.

Couldn't help noticing that you took off your shoes and bras. Do you wear multiple bras?

The museum sounds really nifty! I love the old 5 and 10s that are still around - I remember them well too - my grandmother always loved Woolworths and the lunch counter where she would have a "good hotdog" (and black coffee).

Bill they have one that is fairly recent because it has a picture of our apts and you can see my truck..
chicken spaghetti is ...spaghetti with chicken and sauce, has sides of veggies, and usually garlic bread or rolls..I never eat it..ever..I'm sure it tastes good but it doesn't sound appetizing to me at
all.
the play was really good debra..and the kid playing Macbeth was very talented..and he was tall and skinny and had dark makeup under his eyes ..so he was gaunt looking and did a mouth chewing thing that made him look really demented..good actor.
Jan, I have big boobs..so i need multiple bras..hahaha
I wish they had left the wooden floors in the building..but they tiled over it..one of the old grocery stores had the old wooden floors too..and Tokio Store(bar and beer) has wooden floors so old they are sloped and uneven to the point that if you have too many beers you can get sea sick walking to the bathroom.
Pat, do you ever recognize any of the names?

159?! You can barely buy a lot in town with that here. Crazy. Mind you, I'd never be able to go outside, I'd melt. LOL! I'm made of ice, after all.

There's always so much going on there in West, no wonder you love it!

The trouble with moving to a Mayberry in Texas is that they let Barney Fife load his gun.
