WEST, BY GODDESS, TEXAS NEWS

We had our Trade days this past Saturday, just in time for crappy weather and the rapture. It was hot and humid and thunderstorms all around us(we didn't get them till last night)so we didn't have as big of a crowd as expected. But then I didn't get there till later in the afternoon so I may have missed the morning rush. I think they thought there would be more booths and gardeners selling veggies from their garden, but the weather has been so crappy I don't think anyone's garden is doing for crap. Because they still haven't done any landscaping at the apts. the only thing I have going is some lettuce, basil and flowers..Dexter keeps eating the tops off of my lettuce the little shithead and the bugs are getting the rest.

I can't believe I let them take my picture looking like that. I had been wearing my straw hat and I was already sweating and then my head was soaking wet..and no make up..(like that makes a difference) so I really do look like hammered shit here. But I am grinning from ear to ear over my big pie win..

Saturday is the West High School seniors graduation ceremony. We will have 94 graduating this year. They used to have the ceremony here in West and then it got so big they had them outside and everyone complained about not having enough seats, blah blah and so now they have it at Ferrell Center on the Baylor University Campus in Waco.
The burn ban is back in effect..which sucks..I hope the rain we got last night helped but really wasn't enough. Rains to the East West South and North of us...They finally parted enough for us to get some(I left the windows down on the truck is why)hard rain.
Buddy Poppies will be sold in West by the VFW 4819 and its Ladies Auxiliary for Memorial Day. This is the only fundraiser that the Post does so I always try and give as much as I can. They are also having a fried chicken dinner following the Memorial Day Service at St. Mary's Cemetery. All veterans and their families are invited and are asked to bring either a casserole, salad or a dessert.
West KC Picnic is planned for June 5. It will be a West Czech-style dinner. Which I'm assuming what ever they will be serving there will be sausage involved.(arrrrgh the Mavs just went ahead with a minute something left..ahhaahahahah)
They are having a benefit for Vicki Vochoska on June 12. She is battling breast cancer and the money raised will be to help her with her medical expenses. They'll make BBQ plates with all the trimmings for $8.
A sad time for West. The historic Nemecek Brothers Meat Market has closed..Been open since 1896. Nothing was ever the same once the oldies started dying off and leaving the younguns in charge. I'm sure there was more to it..but it just wasn't the same.
HOT DAMN..THE MAVS JUST WON IT...WE'RE GOING TO THE BIGS............
Lindsey Boyd married Kevin Glomb on January 22,2011 and Kerri Niemeyer married Jacob Coan on April 9, 2011. Both were beautiful brides.

away on May 21.

The Lady Trojans will be playing against Burkburnett this Thursday in Regional Softball Finals.
They will be held at the Byron Nelson High School in Trophy Club. Yes, that's the name of the town. I would go (it's outside of Fort Worth) but they have a dress code and I don't have a beaded t-shirt.

West Fair and Rode Association President Dwayne Upmor gave Shirley Wills of the Heart of Texas Therapeutic Riding Center a check for $3,000. This was a portion of the proceeds from the rodeo association's Bullfest in West on April 30.

The city of West is having a City Wide Yard Sale on June 25-26 Booth spaces $20-$50. I might rent one and see if I can't sell some of these books so I can buy some more when the library has their book sale..ha.
Wow..this Saturday the winds were so high that they split a 250 year old pecan tree in half and up rooted it. It was approximately 120 feet tall and measured 24 feet in circumference around the base. damn.

WEST, TEXAS NEWS 2-16 AND 2-23

2-16 NEWS
Eight West Middle School history teams, comprised of 30 students, came home with plenty of hardware from last Friday's Heart of Texas Regional History Fair in Waco. West Middle School took home a total of seven awards for their entries.
The fair offers ribbons or medals for first, second and third place winners and honorable mention in all categories in the junior division.
The first and second place winners in all categories of the junior division also win the opportunity to compete at the state competition, Texas History Day, in Austin on May 6 and 7. Second place winners in the Website category were Kamrynn Schiller, Holly Soukup and Marissa Adamson. My sweet girl Marissa. Who is always winning a medal for something, and is always pretty low key and blase about it, but was over the moon about this. She gets to go to Austin for State and if they win they could go to Washington D.C. we're all thrilled with everything they all did, but have to admit..I'm just thrilled to death over this. Especially since I got a special phone call from her to tell me all about it. I made her a pumpkin cheesecake ...
Karen Hlavaty Svacek had a 50th birthday and Callie Clark had her third. Tyler Z is 4.
My friend Suzanne R. i s the new writer of the Senior Center News for the West News now and does an excellent job.
Both the Trojans and the Lady Trojans lost in the Basketball tournaments. Crapola.
the West Trojan Baseball team has their season opener tonight at The Ballpark In Arlington, which is a big fecking deal. That's today and haven't heard a score yet.
2-23
Holy shit..the WEST ISD announces employment and program reductions at campuses.
They will decrease the number of employees from 221 to approximately 195 by the start of the 2022-12 school year. "Through attrition, resignations and some probationary staff cuts, we hope to get to 195 or below," Dr. Marty Crawford said.(West ISD superintendent) Even though the cutting back of teachers will make the classes larger, they are still not much larger than 22 or 23 students. Plans are to temporarily suspend theater arts at West High School. Physical education classes, at both high school and middle school, are to become coed. Golf, tennis and power-lifting are to be temporarily suspended also. (this is a shame as we do really good in power-lifting and tennis.)All of this is a direct result from Good Hair Perry's 5 to 15 percent decrease in state funding and a shrinking reserve fund balance for the school district. DON'T GET ME STARTED.
I saw on the news where library's will get stripped of funding and will lose the grants for such things as computers, books, and other library programs, like the summer reading programs.
Mr. and Mrs. David Filer proudly announce the engagement of their daughter, Kimberly Ann Filer to James Allen Andrae, son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Andrae of Winters.
The descendants of Josef and Anna(Polasek) Bezdek will have a reunion on Sunday March 13, at the VFW Post 4819 in West, located at 715 Reagan Street. This includes the families of Frantisek
(Frank) Bezdek, Joseph Frank Bezdek, Karel (Charles) bezdek, Marie Bezdek Sykora, Anna Bezdek Sulak, Jan(John) Bezdek, Johanna Bezdek Kotria and Anezka (Agnes) Bezdek (Sister Olivia).
On February 26th Strickly is throwing a birthday bash for Dwaine Snokhous.
Church Parish Hall of the Nativity of the BVM(Blessed Virgin Mary..for you protestants)is having a fried chicken and dressing dinner with all the trimmings.
WHS debaters advance to state. After a stellar performance at the District 8-AAA Cross Examination Debate Meet, WHS students Amy Holecek and Melany Jean won second place ensuring themselves a trip to state in March.
The Lady Trojans junior varsity softball team won first in the Academy JV Tournament of Feb. 17-19.
I'm soo proud of the kids in West.
Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Sacred Heart #829 is to host its annual Fat Tuesday "Mardi Gras" Taco and Salad Luncheon on March 8.
Which coincidentally is the day I'm going to have the Mardi Gras Party at Jackie's Kitchen and we are having chicken/sausage shrimp gumbo with rice, beignets, cupcakes iced in green/gold/purple, yam biscuits with non alcoholic beer and a sparking wine. Suzanne is going to make the beignets for me and I'll make the rest and she will also down load some jazz, Cajun and zadeko music ..Kathy is getting crowns for king and queen which will be determined by who gets the babies in the cup cakes. There will be masks, beads, cups and bowls decorated for Mardi Gras and Tommy Wolf from Wolf's Sports Bar is allowing me to borrow some of the Mardi Gras decorations from the bar. Which is totally cool of him. I'm really excited about this..I keep waiting for one of them to 'bomb'...but so far they have all been a hit, and actually each one sort of tops the last one. I know I'm due for a total failure but so far..knock on wood..I'm doing good.
Believe me, if I do screw up ..the residents will be the first to tell me..they don't beat around the bush about anything.
Well that's the recap of the West News...with the exception of the loss of our beloved Dr. Eisma. He passed away this morning from the fall he took a couple of weeks back when we had the big snow and all the ice. I can't tell you how sad this makes me. I've know Dr. E and Mrs. Doctor for over 30 years. He wasn't just my Dr. he and his family were my friends. I am broken hearted for his wife and family. Mrs. D. was with him every single day. They worked together and were really a matched set. This is sad news beyond words. The city of West is going to be lost with out him. Goddess bless you Dr. E.

WHAT'S GOING ON IN WEST, BY GODDESS, TEXAS?

Not a damn thing. Well actually there is a little going on. The West Over 40 group is having a dance tonight from 7-10 at West Fraternal Auditorium, with music provided by Texas Heartbeat and admission is $6. Your asked to bring finger foods and there will be no smoking.
Praise Jesus(they're words not mine) the Bold Springs Baptist Church is planning 3 meals this month at the Mary E. Howard Multipurpose Center. Hamburger meal is on the 24th of January and fish and shrimp dinners for today and the 28th beginning at 11 a.m. For all those reading this in West, the phone number to call is 826-3225. If you've never had them they are fantastic.
There is a great picture of the West Volunteer Department members Tommy Muska and Steve Vanek, 2 people I really like. They're with the fire prevention essay winners. It just seems wrong somehow to have a picture of the F.D. volunteers and not have Freddy Gerik in it. Sigh*
Hot dang..the Girl Scout troops are selling cookies. 8 varieties at $3.50 a box.
County show livestock sale is set for Friday. A bunch of Miss Henrietta's grand and great grand kids are in this.
I'm so mad at myself..Last Friday they had the Main Street meeting and I had intended to go and plum forgot. over 60 business people were there to meet the new manager James Johnson. They have a bunch of wonderful ideas too. Johnson shared some of the visions he had at the meeting."I'd like to see downtown be a community playground. I'd like it to be more kid-friendly with such things as benches, tables and more lighting. We want people to stay longer in town."
His ideas also include a walking and biking trail through the city's downtown area. He talked about the possibility of a grant for the trail which would use ground up Nike shoes for the trail's surface. He also discussed signage for the city ranging from banners for special events and seasons to signs giving
historical information on the various buildings and businesses in the city.
He also talked about possible events such as a street dance(April 29) prior to the CBR bull riding event at the West Fair and Rodeo Grounds on April 30, an Earth Day event with a recycling theme in May, a festival (Pivofest)(Pivo is beer in Czech) featuring various type beers from Eastern Europe and the Czech Republic along Main Street in July, and Halloween-type events for children and adults alike in October. Also at Halloween, he discussed the possibility of having a tour of ghostly homes in the city.(West really goes all out decorating on Halloween and Christmas). In December, he talked about having an Old World, Eastern European Christmas event. His office is at the Katy Railroad Depot and I'm thinking about going and talking to him directly about being a volunteer. He doesn't have a Czech last name, maybe he won't care that I'm not Czech. I keep forgetting to tell them I may not be Czech but my mothers maiden name was Frankenfield, so there is some German in me.
And as for the street dance. I'm all for that. Before Westfest stole the night, we used to have a street dance on the Friday before Westfest started. It was more fun. Busby's and the other grocery stores would stay open and sell sodas, beer, treats, etc. Blackie and the Strangers would play and it was so much fun. Then Westfest decided there was money to be made for them and they shut it down, said they thought some drunk would wander in front of the trains going through and get killed. Hey, I been really really drunk, but not so drunk to walk in front of a train..They just wanted the night for them. Cause Westfest used to just be Saturday and Sunday ..now it's Friday night and the weekend..So yeah, bring back the street dance. (watch me be the only sober one there and walk in front of a train.)
Tim Sulak, a West native was sworn in as Judge of the 353rd District Court in Austin on January 7.
Did I tell you that West Rest Haven is on lock down..Or at least it was. They were hit hard by the flu and old people sick every where. Every one is sick. It was even on the local nightly news. The concern is all the old folks got their flu shots, but they are all sick with the flu. Either the batch was bad, or it just didn't work, or it mutated and the shot didn't work on it. So I'm not sure yet, if I will have a Jackie's Kitchen the 26th or not. I'm sort of stuck for an idea anyhow. I think I reached my peak with the tea party. But have been working an idea around in my head. A Chinese or Japanese tea party. Give them something they don't get or maybe ever had. Still thinking on it.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Rieger celebrated their 50th anniversary. You know?..I'm always amazed at the amount of people that live here that celebrate 50+ year anniversary.
Madeline Marie Marek was born on December 20th and weighted 6 pounds and 6 ounces and was 20 inches long. Marissa Marak just had her 18th birthday. Lainey just turned one, and Madeline had her 5th birthday. We've lost over 6 people and I think some of them are a direct result from this flu bout.
Both the Trojans and the Lady Trojans are winning in District basketball.
I am just dismayed at the food prices. Last winter when I did all my baking sugar was .99 on sale and $1.49 regular. Now? Its' on sale at $2.49. I bought flour last year .79 cents a bag, now? Sale price is $1.49. Tyson fryers were on sale .69 cents a pound and now .99 cents ..Looks like the only thing that hasn't skyrocketed is fruit and veggies. Although canned veggies are up.
My electric bill is up, my telephone bill is up, my insurance bill went up, my cable bill went up, gas is way the fuck up and my SS? It's the same.
I'd find a part time job but if I do, I could lose my Texas Medicaid and my rent could go up. Feck~

But in case the stuff here is still cheaper than where you live, wait till you see what you get for your $. For sale by owner, 1,625 sq. feet. Living area, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, den with gas log fireplace, 2 car garage with openers, central heat and air, front porch, back patio, deck, built in 2003. Large metal building, close to schools, tile floors and wood laminate floors, $159.900.
Remember Old Village Bakery is still for sale. Go into business, buy a nice home, and then enjoy pevo's and skunk eggs. Plus I'll personally take you around and introduce you to Inky, Anissa, Patsy Patsy Patsy, and Bimbo Hand. Enjoy your weekend. It's 43, sunny and life is good here in West, By Goddess, Texas.

WEST,TEXAS NEWS

I haven't done a West,Texas news update in a while..was going to do the letters to Santa but then I forgot...But you due for some local news...actually there isn't much going on but we did collect enough toys to give toys to 250 kids. That's 68 families and over 1,500 toys..Last year we collected enough toys for 50 families and 150 kids..so we get better each year..
Our new VFW Club is open and running...they had the opening in November and it is over by the Westfest Parking area so I see it every time I drive to town...Looks like a cracker box in the middle of a tar patch...But eventually they will plant grass and flowers..or at least I hope so..Our new assisted living center is up and running too..I think it has 15 apts..they are pretty pricy, but they are very very nice..

The boy Trojans place 4Th at the Sherman basketball tourney, but the girls won first and move into the play offs...A West horse won first place at the Los Alamitos Race Course..Leading Spirit, a 4-year old bay gelding owned by Barry Thompson captured first place in the $50,000 First Down Dash Handicap G3.What ever the fuck that is...

West also received over 47 inches of rain during the 2007 year..Which is almost the same amount we received the last 2 years all together..It started out very very wet and then ended up dry..But still had record amounts..No baby's were born this past week..dang..But we had 3 croak on us...Two of them were 90 years old and one was 72...I don't mind when some one dies and their in their 90's..but when some one croaks and is in their early 60's..it makes me antsy..
Don the neighbor that lived behind me died in November..I was talking to his wife and she said he was only 64(he looked 84) and I said that it made me nervous as he was the same age as me...she said she thought I was in my early 50's..Need to put her in my will...

Lots of jobs in ole West, as Jupe Mills is looking for a receptionist/secretary..full time,401K,paid vacations, holidays, and insurance is available..The Village Bakery is looking for help, plus they are still looking for a buyer..anyone want to buy a Bakery?
West Chamber of Commerce is looking for an Administrative Assistant part-time.Plus the West News is looking for a receptionist/bookkeeper.
If you decide to move to West like Babs did you could buy a house pretty cheap..A 2-story home on over sized, corner lot with 6-7 bedrooms, 3 bath, study with fireplace, large, formal dining room, hardwood floors, upstairs balcony and character in every room has been reduced to $100,000.How about a 3-bedroom,2-bath with office,11 foot ceilings, large backyard, new kitchen, central heat and air for $88,000.Or if your looking for a little land with that house, there is a 3-bedroom, 2.5 bath brick home on 1.97 acres,3-car garage, converted patio, tile and wood flooring, walk-in closets, and built in appliances for only $234,000.
This was a slow week for West as most everyone is still hung over from New Years. When I went to pick up Patsy and Andy from Mynar's Bar New Years night there were cops all over the place..But it was an early night for them because the bars close at midnight during the week so when the new year came in..most people were being escorted out the door and into their cars...I saw the Bratprinces momma and daddy. Edda doesn't drink either and we were thinking about just wandering up and down the streets of West hoping we could be decoys for the cops so the real drunks could make their get away...Like to see the looks on their face when they breathalyzed the 2 of us..Me with no alcohol for 17 years and Edda with no alcohol for 41 years..
Of course Johnny sorta made up for it..and Patsy and Andy were drunker than Cooter Brown.Wonder just who the hell ole Cooter Brown was?...
Well, that's all the news to print...I am disappointed as Bold Springs Baptist Church isn't selling hamburgers this week or next week..I'm jonesing for a Bold Springs Baptist Church hamburger...I'm telling ya..they are nummy delicious..the most perfect hamburger..

fuckme with onions...
