WEST, BY GODDESS, TEXAS NEWS 12/29/10

Not much going on in West this past week..The paper is full of recaps of the past year..We had snow twice and both in Feb. Nice reminder of the West Lady Trojans making it to District Playoffs, where we had the championship stole from us..sigh* the West Plublic Library's Tale Tellers received statewide recognition on April 15 as they were honored as the Wayne Williams Library Project of the Year Award winner at the Texas Library Association's 97th Annual Conference in San Antonio. The Texas Library Association defines this award as one that best Exemplifies the highest level of achievement, professional standards and inspiration to other libraries.
I can't tell you how proud of them I am. They ARE the future of our little town.
Kiwanis is sponsoring a blood drive Jan. 13 and the Boy Scouts are still collecting aluminum cans.
We lost a really nice guy the other day. Riding a motorcycle with no helmet. One vehicle accident. Robert (Bobby) Allen Busby, Jr. was only 59. Was a Vietnam vet and a really nice guy. To sad.
Matt Murphy (the son of a good friend) just turned 18. Happy birthday Matt.
One of the coaches just turned 40. and Rudolph and Nolene Pavelka are celebrating their 50th anniversary.
New babies new babies. Kolby Del Girard was born on Dec 20 and weighed in at 7 pounds, 6 ounces and 20 inches long.
7 West Trojans were named to the All District 7-AAA football teams.
West Knights of Columbus Hall is having a Czechaholics New Years Eve Dance. Advance tickets are $8 and $10 at the door.
Tokio Store is having a New Years Party and Lonnie Paul and Country Rain are playing. They have free spots for self-contained RV's. I am supposed to go there and be designated driver. But I'm thinking about just not leaving the house at all . West Bar and Grill is having a New Year's Eve party with a Prime Rib dinner. West Fraternal Auditorium is having a NYE's Dance too featuring Whiskey Hill. $7 per person. Black eyed peas and cornbread.
Ross Country Store is having a party too with black eyed peas and cornbread. I already have my bag of black eyed peas..I have to take one and put them in the 4 corners of the apt. for good luck.
Cabbage was on sale at Food Mart and got 2 big heads..I love cabbage...just boil it up and salt and pepper...love it.
There are some really good buys in houses and I'm wishing I had money to do some investing so I could fix them up and flip them. One is a perfect starter home of 4-5 BR older brick home with game room, formal dining room, large closets, partial updating started. Approx 1 acre fenced yard. reduced to $39,900.
For Sale: nice antique bar and matching stools. 3" solid mahogany curved top. Imported from the Philippines..$600 or best offer. Nice...
Lots of jobs for LVN/RN's and a teachers assistant for Saint Mary's, and part time at Gerik's Bakery. I'd like that job..but would eat my wages..Dalton Meurer (Ms Henrietta's grandson) placed third in the American Steer class which qualified him to be in the sale of Champions at the State Fair of Texas.
Thanks to some wonderful friends I managed to get enough money to buy a new TV to replace the one that Nitty Fucking Flowers destroyed. Also managed to pay off Dexter's vet bill and get his shots. He also got weighed and is 16.5 pounds..He's not feeling to well, been laying on the couch sleeping since he got home. Need to take him some food and water as he's not getting down to get any for himself.
Have a birthday Pecan Pie in the oven. A German Chocolate Cake to make by tomorrow and Babs asked me to fix the meat up for her pork green chili stew. Going to grate her some potatoes so she can have my world famous hash browns..Don't know how I do it..but I do make the best fecking hash browns ever..
Oh my new tv..it's a 31.65 inch Sanyo and got it at House of Satan for $318. I hugged it.
well...not much going on in West and not much going on with me..Took a nap and I'm still not awake..hope everyone has a fun and safe New Years.

WEST AND DEXTER NEWS.

It's official..he's Dexter. My own little serial killer with his own little dark passenger. He can shred tissue, newspaper, and assorted garbage faster and more thoroughly than any office shredder known. I was on the computer, just typing away and he came running into the room, jumped on the table, jumped on my shoulder, gave my ear a nuzzle, jumped on the keyboard laid down and fell instantly to sleep. My keys were still on the keyboard. I made 2 pizzas for Babs and I, so she came over for dinner and he's not fond of pepperoni, but likes cheese. Eats oatmeal and doesn't like sausage...Oh shit here he comes. False alarm, he just collapsed on the floor by my feet. I fecking love this guy. He's funny, goofy, adventurous, and a little psycho. I talked to Jenny today (they got their $8,000 from Obama for being a first time home buyer) and she said she thinks he was either born end of May or first part of June..So he's really young yet. I'm letting him go out side for short trips but he's fearless, even with the rain. He sleeps with me till I throw him out of the bed..He purrs so loud, and kneads and sucks on me till it drives me nuts. I'll throw him to the other side of the bed and then he attacks my hands and feet. Loves to attack my head, which is not what I'm used to. Being attacked on the head by a wacko kitteh at 3a.m. is a little startling. I'll put all of his toys in a his basket and he drags them out and scatters them all over the place. Damn, he's fun.
Today on the news there was a great sports clip on the 'always exciting West Trojan games.' they have 4 games by rallying in the final quarter to take the win. This makes us 5-2 and evened their 7-AAA at 1-1 in district. They won the game against China Springs (who was heavily favored to win) by scoring a touchdown and there was 45 seconds left on the time clock. They play this Friday at Hillsboro for another 7-AAA game and they are 1-5 and 0-2 for District. The Freshman squad and the seventh grade sq
uad beat China Spring too. So we had a sweep. Hilllsboro is only 17 miles away, I might go this Friday and watch them play. But when I go they lose...so?...Anessa might not let me go. Which reminds me..she thinks they have a rabid opossum at their place and only guns they have access to are Termite's and all he has is a shot gun and a 357...not exactly opossum killing guns. (Dexter is running through the apartment, psyching himself up for a table leap, shoulder leap and keyboard plunge..) I just heard something hit the floor. Just dumped everything on the table by my chair on the floor...My pills and vitamins scattered all over..sigh*
Lady Trojans volleyball team won twice in 7-AAA District playoffs. Hot dang!
Other Trojan news, the West Band earns a Division 1 rating for the second year in a row. It's the largest band I think they have ever had with 83 members and 18 seniors. I personally think the band director is a dipshit and these kids could do it all on their own..but....that's my opinion.
Now here is some news that is one of the reasons why I love my little town. Remember 5 weeks ago I mentioned a house burned down and they set up a fund?...The house was 101 years old and thought to be one of the oldest homes in the city. So everyone was pretty upset about that and the fact that the family lost nearly everything and was out on their butts. Well, the mayor found them a house that night, it was empty and they had the lights, gas, etc. all turned on that night. The family was able to salvage some furnishing from the fire such as a cross, some family photographs, and a stainless steel measuring tape pulled from a charred desk. Not much but every thing saved is now a treasure. The family was over whelmed by the donations, both material and monetary. The husband, a former Marine said he grew up in small towns and remembers when everyone helped each other during times of tragedy, but after living in larger cities he thought those days had long passed. he said the kindness he and his family have experienced since the fire has reminded him of that small-town community spirit which he thought was no longer alive. I won't go into detail about what all was done, but let me say, they have everything they would need, including clothes, furniture, appliances, etc. This came from individuals and local business's. I love my town.
There is a Tractor Pull scheduled for October 30,31 at the West Rodeo Grounds. You'll be glad to know that the pull will use TATPA rules and trophies are to be given.
A bake sale and raffle benefiting Amy Morgan of West is scheduled from 12-3 p.m. this Saturday at the Sports Authority at the Central Texas Marketplace in Waco. Amy is a full time TSTC student and suffers with Scoliosis and has her whole life. She has had numerous surgeries to try and correct this problem. All have resulted in temporary relief. She recently underwent her last surgery on September 15 in Plano. A week after the surgery, she was rushed to the emergency room as a result of a blood clot which later resulted in internal bleeding. Proceeds from Saturday's benefit will go toward her medical expenses.
A Ranch Rodeo is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday at the West Rodeo Grounds. The event is produced by H&R Productions and admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children 6-12. Children 5 and under are admitted free.
The Ross Volunteer Fire Department is having a Horse Shoe Tournament this Saturday at Ross Country Store.
50 years ago Raymond Kubula a 6-foot, 208 pound center for the West Trojans, hit Steve Lewis so hard in the 64-14 win over the Connaly Cadets that he thought he was dead. When all the rival opponents from the District 16-AA teams were asked about good football players they all said KUBALA.
50 years ago a total of 826 West voted and approved the sale of beer and liquor in West. 709 for the sale and 117 against. (826..wow) 50 years ago you could buy a brand new Maytag Washer for $124.95 ..less trade from F. G. Gerik and Son Appliances. (which is still open by the way.)
Alfons Joseph Cinek Jr. manager of the Tokio Store, has filed a lawsuit seeking 414 State Judge Vicki Menard to reverse a decision to deny a beer permit for the store. A hearing on the case is set for Oct. 29. TABC cannot issue beer permits without the approval of the county judge or higher court. Gee, wonder who Cinek pissed off and why? They have always sold beer there. It's a grocery store/bar/domino hall/etc. and beer and ring baloney is a staple there.
The Tale Tellers will present a Halloween program and will be a Halloween Hullabalooza with spooky crafts, silly games, and treats for area children. Activities will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the library. Children are asked to wear their costumes. Sort of like what I did 3 years ago..For some reason I'm not asked to do anything at the library any more. Not sure what the deal is. Don't know if Nancy is afraid I'll take her shine or I pissed someone off...more likely I pissed someone off..Probably Missy Sulak, who I'm not fond of and usually don't try and pretend differently. snort*
West Knights of Columbus 4th Annual Turkey and Dressing Dinner on October 25 at 11 a.m. $7 per place, dine in or take out.

New arrivals mention the most beautiful Kenna Jo-Ann Claridy. Grandparents Debbie Oden of Temple and David Oden of West. I am posting the picture they have of her. I have seen that same look on her Pappy's face when he was passed out in the floor, sleeping right next to my dog Bill who was not to happy with the sleeping arrangements at all.

Amelia Grace Cole celebrated her first birthday with a Mickey Mouse Cake which was made by her mawmaw Dupree.
Macy Hancock turns three with a birthday party at the Playdium Pool. She and her friends swam and then enjoyed her 'cowboy' cake. Ernest and Evelyn Bezdek celebrated their 60th Anniversary, along with Willie and Eileen(Webb) Svrcek and Herman and Stacie Ann (Bacak) Rossler. To get married in those days you had to get a blood test, and a permission form by a parent if the male was under the age of 21 and the female was under the age of 18.
West Food Mart has Blue Bell Ice cream 2 for $7..hmm, I have ice cream cones and no ice cream. I see a trip to the store coming. Community Grocery has ground beef on sale for $1.99 per pound..Might make 2 stops. OOOOh..cabbage 3 lbs for $1.. I love cabbage.. I still have a container of sausage meat ball/ cabbage soup. Good..
Looks like that is all the news from West. Still raining and even though it's not hard its steady and now Hill County (we're in McClellan but right next to Hill so it means us) is under a flood watch. OOps here comes Dexter..ijoefiroqgmtojghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhppp150]qy50q2yj0;95 I think that was pussy for howdy.

WEST NEWS VOLUME 119, NO.24

The oldest business in West..established in 1889.

Some interesting things going on in lil' old West...One of the residents of West is going to host a live Internet broadcast about Texas culture. It will be streamed live over the Internet from 8-9 p.m. this Friday via the Czech American TV(CATV) website http://www.catvusa.com/.
Jana Vaculik a 2000 West High School graduate has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Czech Studies from the University of Texas in Austin, said the idea for the show is John Jonner's, who is originally from Brno in the Czech Republic. He began his career working as an investigative reporter for Czech newspapers and as a television cameraman and TV engineer in the Czech Republic.
The show will be a par of a new format of live shows over the Internet with volunteer hosts and reporters featured on Czech American TV, which broadcasts only in the English language. The Texas Czech Show is the first under this format. Since it's impossible to bring a TV crew to all the locations to do the stories, he decided to have volunteers bring the stories over the Internet.
Anyhow it's pretty cool for the Czechs and anyone interesting in the Czech culture.
The picture of the West Main Street Farmers Market shows the one big table (out of 4) with all the canned veggies and assorted fresh vegetables and fruit. I bought the small bag of blackberries for $4..If you look closely in the picture you can see my elbow(I'm behind the black lady) and my tits. I'm hoping by this Saturday there will be a bigger turnout..It looked pretty wimpy.

West Fraternal Auditorium is having a summerfest dance with the Johnny Holub Polka Band of Columbus playing. The RVOS Lodge 46 is having a social and meeting at Cottonwood Hall. There will be a dinner served and members are asked to bring desserts.
The West Public Library Tale Tellers are having their next round of story times. Some of the Saturday programs will be Get Crazy With Daisies, Deep in the Heart of Texas, Not so Deep in the Heart of Texas , Welcome to the Rainforest, and Circus Critters. Let me tell you...these kids are awesome.
The summer reading program starts June 10. The student who reads the most books (beyond 10) will receive a trophy.
Kristi Charanza and Jeremy Sprayberry were wed on April 25, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West with Father Ed officiating.
Kyle Lewis Nors was born on May 5, weighing in at 7 lbs. 7 oz. and 21 inches long.
Mackenzie Rae Green was born May 14 and she was a petite 6 lbs. 8 oz. and 19 inches long.
Dustin Wyatt Blann turned one year old with a party at his parents home. Dustin's granny Pat and his aunts and uncles were all there. Guests were served cake, brownies, strawberries, chip and dip and punch. Everyone enjoyed pulling him around in his new red wagon.
Kristen Allene Linne is engaged to Aaron John Mynar. They will be married at St. Mary's on July 18th.
Teresa Elizabeth Nors is engaged to Robert Carl MacNabb and there wedding will be held at St. Mary's in West on June 20th.
St. Joseph's Annual picnic in Elk will be held on the church grounds again, and as usual there will be bingo, BBQ, and beer.
We had 3 pass away this week. 80, 75, and 80...
MexPresso's Coffee Shop is now serving...........(insert trumpet playing here)....Blue Bell Ice Cream Cones. "There's a smile in every cone."...hot dang.
West Furniture has a 15% sale on all recliners for father's day.
50 years ago John Roznovsky , Clement Dudik and Freddy Machac caught 3 catfish weighing 30 and 40 lbs. The next day they caught one weighing 45 lbs and one weighing 151/2 lbs. Bringing a 2 day total of catfish to 130 1/2 lbs.
West Food Mart has shoulder roast on sale for $1.99 a lb. I bought one along with some mushrooms for $1.50 and a huge stalk of broccoli for .99cents.
Oh...there's a new restaurant and bar opened in West. Called....
Filly's and Phish. I don't have a clue but I will find out. Babs and I went to Pizza Place and had individual 8" pizzas for dinner tonight and afterwards we went to Lulu's so she could buy a carton of cigarettes(smoking will get her yet) and then to Community Grocery as they had Blue Bell Ice Cream pints 4 for $5...We both got 4 each..Bacon's still not on sale, damn it.
so.....that's the news in West. Personal news...Monday I had a blowout taking Tony to town. He's a deacon at the Bold Springs Baptist Church)(he's Caucasian from England at a African-American Church)...Go figure. Anyhow before the day was over the little Nazi cop slammed a orange sticker on the window saying the car was abandoned and had 72 hours to move it or it would be towed at my expense. Less than 8 hours
after the tire blew...This happened Monday...today is Wed. I have stewed for 2 days about that fucking sticker...I'm so pissed..I called the dispatcher at the station and vented my feelings about it and told her I remembered a time when the police officers had a little more class and honor than the ones that we had now and that Irvin was an asshole...She giggled and said she would pass the message along. But I'm not happy with that..I'm going up there tomorrow and register a complain against the little fucking Nazi. Babs said he probably put the sticker on the truck after he saw all the pagan bumper stickers. Yeah?..fuck the little bastid. I hope the Goddess smites the 1/2 pinted little prick. David O's soon to be son-in-law came from Waco to change the tires out..He brought the husband of David's step-daughter and then because my jack wont' jack they called the uncle from the Ford Dealer. So I referred to them as my pit crew...

On the sports side of the news. The West Trojans lost but 11 of them were named to the 7-AAA squad and 13 Lady Trojans were elected to several All District 7-AAA Squads...We rock.
Oh yeah, schools out and the pool is open.
We got a smidgen of rain this evening..hoping for some more before the night is over...my little garden needs it. I did pull up my garlic today...6 pretty good sized heads of garlic. Might plant some more in time for winter.

I have the camera out and will go around and take pictures of some West folks...and places of business inside...Like the meat counter at Community Grocery...It's cool...Me and one of the kids have a running joke...'what are you going to do if there's a fire?................grab my meat and beat it.'...
see ya around..........
