Ok...now on to the regular appointed West, Texas news. I lied about how much rain we got..didn't mean to lie..it was that dept perception problem again. We got almost 7 inches of rain in a 24 hours period. It was the largest amount of rain since George Nors has been gathering rain since September of 2001.

This Saturday West is having an Accordion Squeeze-Off from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the West Community Center. It's a free event..so be there or be square.
Hot Damn! Bold Springs Baptist Church is going to be selling hamburgers June 21 from 11a.m. on. It is on my yafta list.
West KC's is sponsoring beer and wine competition on August 8 at the West Columbus Club Hall. The beer division will have 2 classes, amber and dark. The wine will have 3 classes, white, red and novelty. There will be a $6 fee per category. Don't think I'll be asking about the judging job on this one.
West Senior Center needs volunteers for Meals on Wheels program. Need a driver and someone to help deliver the meals. I need to get off my ass and go do that. But it forces me to have to make conversation with people...sigh*
West Brethren Church is going to host a "GOD AND COUNTRY" concert this Sunday at the West church. Nashville's Eric Horner, a gospel music singer will be singing. I will refrain from making smart ass remarks. I have bit my tongue twice. Only because this guy and his wife do a lot for the troops by putting on shows for them..so I'll be good.
Man, there is going to be some good eating here in West. Penelope is having a barbecue cookoff this Saturday along with a dessert contest. Elk's St. Joseph's Annual Picnic is scheduled for June 27 at the church grounds.Lebanon church is having a hamburger supper on Saturday along with drinks, chips and desserts. Donations only.
I guess the Farmers Market went ok..The city is currently applying to be a member of the GoTexan certified farmers market program. Then the vendors would be allowed to accept WIC coupons and senior citizen vouchers. Which is cool.
Holy shit! The Playdium Pool has an extended menu(they used to sell burgers, nachos and ice cream) to steaks, shrimp, fish and chicken and chicken fried steaks, baked potatoes and home fries with Kake's cheese ruff sauce(don't ask I don't have a clue)..dang.
I found out at the dinner last Sunday with Mike and Suzanne that Sukak's Restaurant closed down. That's a shame. Compensinos the Mexican Restaurant closed down too.
We have 2 new babies. Landrie Reese Massey weighing in at 7 pounds 2 ounces and 20 inches long and Ella Ann Wolf was a whopping 9 pounds 1 ounce and 21 inches long. Mr and Mrs. Robert L. Wolf celebrated their 50th anniversary, along with Marvin and Barbara Brem. Butch and Fran Vochoska celebrated their 45th anniversary. Mary Dujka turns 97 tomorrow.

Community Grocery has a 3 pound box of Slovacek BBQ links for sale at $6.19. I'm going to get a box..them suckers are soooo good.
I haven't heard from Suzanne about the inspections so I'm hoping they went well. So I'll try and sell another house here. Old fashioned charm 3-bedroom, 2 bath with 1,940 sq. feet remodeled and updated in 2008 with new roof, new A/C and heat. Looks brand new. 1001 N. Reagan $124,900. That's in town.
Czech Inn needs a full time night auditor and must be able to work nights and weekends and holidays. Jupe Mills is looking for a wholesale manager which includes invoicing, phone skills and dealing with dealers.
There you go folks..the West, Texas news...What didn't make the paper was that Babs along with Tony and Betty's brother they killed a 2-3 foot yellow bellied something snake..I forget..Prego her cat found it on the porch right by her door..They hacked it to death. The mustang farmer has a small tank and it attracts all those type of snakes..they like water and they don't like being messed with. They're not poisonous but don't think Babs would have liked being bit by it and know the cats wouldn't. They also make a smell like a skunk when they are threatened. Which really freaked ole Tony out. Ha.
I walked over to take Babs her paper and Dexter walked over with me ..or stalked me all the way over I'm not sure which. He went into Babs house, pissing off Tina and worrying Prego. He would like to make friends but the twisted sisters aren't all that interested. I don't think he knows he's not as illegible a bachelor as he seems to think and has visions of a little Dexter harem...dream on buddy..dream on.

WEST, TEXAS NEWS JAN.27

I wish Miss Henrietta was still here. She would be so proud of her grand kids. Dalton M. won the Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat. Every year the West kids do really good at the Mcclennan County Junior Livestock Show. This year the kids sold their animals for approximately $57,000 at the Sale of Champions. West did the best in the market goat category as nine students had goats place high enough to qualify for Friday's sale. Dalton had the Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat. Jolee M.,Shelby W. and Kylan M. each had market goats winning first place ribbons. The M. kids are Miss Henrietta's grand kids. She never missed a showing and they showed all over the state. She never missed a football, basketball, or baseball game if one of her Grand kids were playing. She made all the games for a few years because her Granddaughter was a cheerleader.
West had two students with steers placing high enough for the sale. Payton S. had a second place steer while Christy J. had a fifth place steer at the show.
Jessika F. was crowned the new Miss McLennan-Hill Czech-Slovak Queen during the group's meeting last Sunday in the West Community Center. Her little Czech Sister in the pageant is Brooke F. her actual sister. For her winnings, Jessika received a $500 scholarship, crowns and Czech crystal from the McLennan-Hill Czech Heritage Society, state sashes from Maggie's Fabric Patch and Larry and Kathy Podsednik, a flower bouquet from Flowers 'N' Things, jewelry from Blessings, a gift certificate from Divine Designs, and a Czech recipe and folk tales book, hand-cut Czech decorated eggs and a stain glass Czech flag from Olde Czech Corner Antiques.

They're having another hearing to discuss whether or not Tokio Store will get it's beer permit back. They have had it for years and years and years, but all of a sudden they have new neighbors who say it's too noisy and they got some Judge to take the permit away and then another Judge gave it back and now their having another hearing to see if they get it back again. It's really stupid..Tokio Store is a grocery type store(old) with pot belly stove a bar and some tables and people go there and listen to bands, juke box, drink some beers, raise a little hell and go home. I hope they get it back.
State Tarok Tourney set at Cottonwood Hall. The SPJST Lodge at Cottonwood Hall (about 9 miles from West) is the site of the 2010 SPJST State Tarok Tournament set for February 6. The tournament is open to everyone, both SPJST members and non-members, ages 16 and above. The entry fee is $7 for memebers and $15 for non-members. The entry fee includes snacks and lunch. There will be $200 in cash prize money with trophies presented to the top four winners. Cash prizes are to be presented to the top eight. I'd love to say I know what Tarok is...but I haven't a clue.
West Public Library has started a paperback exchange program. Nancy came up with this idea. People keep donating paper backs and we have no more room for them on the shelves. She sells them at the book sale but the .25-.50 cents she gets for them doesn't add up to much. Lots of people buy and read paper backs and then either give them away or trade them. So she figured we'd get in on it and the books that are traded are added in on our circulation numbers and help us get funds and grants. Nancy is doing such a great job. She's started a Friends of the West Public Library and the ones that join will be used as slave labor. Ha..Not exactly, but we will be able to pick out a section of books that we will be in charge of and will be expected to keep them in alphabetical order, straightened, dusted, etc. We'll all take turns doing the windows, cleaning the hall, the bathrooms and the room they rent out for Showers, receptions etc. That way it doesn't all fall on her shoulders to do. I go up there and shelve books and help out when she needs it, but she's been using people doing community service(speeding tickets, etc.) and most of them are kids that are in trouble and they get sentenced to so many hours of community service and they are pissed and don't want to be there and don't care if they do it right or not. Nothing worse than looking for a book by Patterson and finding the book your looking for in the paper backs or in the W's...
The West Lions Club is meeting at noon Thursday at Nors Sausage and Burger House. The West Library Board is meeting Feb. 8 and I think I might attend. Might attend both meetings. See what kind of mischief I can get into.

89 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wolf opened a new grocery store at the Capital Service Station Building on South Main. St. (in the 70's, 80,'s it was known as the Capital Bar and Jackiesue's favorite hang out.)
Here's a nice buy if you want to live in the country. 7.9 acres with 2-story, 5 br., 2.5 baths, office, 2 barns, storage building, in-ground pool, covered patio and much more.10 minutes to West, 10 minutes to Waco. $252,900.

Well, that's all the news for the tiny town of West, Texas. Come on down for a visit...buy you a Dublin Dr Pepper...

Christmas season has come to West, Texas with the arrival of both the Claus's, who will arrive by a horse drawn buggy. Think the reindeer were resting up for Christmas Eve. The activities begin at 4:45 p.m this Saturday at City Hall. They will be at Santa's Work Parlor, which is to be set up in the old fire truck garage area of City Hall. No one will be there to take official pictures so everyone is asked to be sure and bring cameras and take lots of pictures. In addition to the Claus's visit the West Elementary School choirs singing and recorded Christmas music will be provided.
City workers put up a 32-foot tall Christmas tree on the City Hall lawn Tuesday morning and it will be lighted during a special ceremony Saturday from 6-7 p.m. Frank Nemec is scheduled to turn the switch to light the tree. There will also be an area where the kids will be able to roast marshmallows over fire. The West Boy Scouts are to help with this, which will feature a 6-foot(in diameter) fire pit for the marshmallows and s'mores roasting. How cool is that? I love my town.
St. Mary's PTC is sponsoring a Santa's Workshop from 1-3:30 p. m. this Saturday in St. Mary's Church Parish Center. The event is free to adults and it will be $5 for the kids, which will be exchanged for Five Elf Bucks. The Elf Bucks can be spent on various activities in Santa's Workshop. This includes a 5x7 picture with Santa and Mrs. Claus in the cafeteria, a large cake walk and student-made Arts projects for sale and a gift basket raffle. West Main Street has several events about their Christmas Tour of Homes planned from 6-9 p. m. Saturday.(Saturday's a fun filled day)
The Tour will feature four homes. The cost is $25 and they have buses departing from the Czech Inn as it is a guided tour. The tours from 6,6:30, 7 and 7:30 are filled up and they have added a 8 p.m. tour and it's nearly sold out. In addition to the viewing of the four homes, which will have different themes and refreshments they will also be eligible for a drawing of a $100 cash price at the end of the tours. Those who don't want to do the tours but want in on the refreshment area at the Czech Inn can pay $15. The refreshments are provided by Nors Sausage and Burger House, Sulak's Cafe, Pizza House of West and the Village Bakery. So the food will be kickass..worth the $15 for the food..maybe they'll have skunk eggs...sigh* There will be a silent auction with lots of great prizes and the money raised by the event will be for the downtown project. Some of the projects are :new benches, trash receptacles, lamp posts and picnic tables.
Plus we have a hero. Former West resident honored for saving life. Dallas Police Officer Brad Uptmore(son of Inky and Debbie Uptmore) was awarded the Life Saving award for successfully disarming a female threatening to commit suicide by stabbing herself with a large kitchen knife.
The Tale Tellers will be bringing in the Christmas Season with their Fourth Annual Christmas Pajama Party and a reading of the Polar Express. There will be crafts, cookie decorating and pictures with Santa. The party will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. this Friday. free to all kids.
Oh man..I just read the thank you to the volunteers at the Thanksgiving Dinner and we served 400 meals...Hot damn...That's 80 more people than last year...I am so pleased.
There must be something in the water..we have another set of triplets born..Addison, Reagan and Baylee Huse...We have about 4-5 sets of triplets and at least 6 sets of twins..or we used to ...I'm sure they're still here. Jo Ann Nors received a "Local Merchant" award. She single-handedly donated 100 percent of everything that was needed to the tune of over $20,000 worth of clothing to Child Welfare Board. For every year, it is a goal to find formal clothing for all the kids to go to the prom. She's amazing. I love my little town.
We Had the blessing of the statue of the Infant Jesus of Prague for the Prague Ancestral Prayer Garden followed by a Czech Mass. We even had a Czech Bishop from Czechoslovakia.
