IF MY FEET COULD TALK.....

They would be screaming at me to sit my fat ass down and get off of them...yesterday some guy called and they do the scanning on old folk..they were supposed to do them at the Senior Center and for some reason they couldn't..and all these people in West had apt's to have them done and could we have it at the meeting room at the library...hmmm...yeah, why the hell not...thinking I could come over..let them in at 9am ..lock them in the meeting area and go back home...and come back at 3pm when the library opens...yeah..nice thought Jackiesue..
I have been here from 9am..it's 6pm...I have an hour to go and my back, feet, and ass hurt...It wouldn't have been so bad, if I just sat at the desk and read a book...(why didn't I think of that earlier????)...but noooooooo, I have to finish up with the redoing of the non-fiction section...I had done the 0's to the 600's...and it took me 3 days...really a mess..today I did all the 600's, and started in on the 700's and it took me 6 hours..that's how screwed up they were...fuckme...and for some reason the books go in a straight line to the end of the 600's and then it jumps to the 800's and the 900's and the 700's are on a different book shelf all together...I'm sure(maybe not) there was a reason..but before I rip them down and replace them..I am going to confer with Nancy...which is Jackiesue for stall until someone else does it..yeah, right...We have some sort of organization called the Builders Club..from 6Th grade to 9Th It think...they come in and 'help'..They think I'm crazy and they do a lot of eye rolling and shoulder shrugging...I asked a kid to help me scotch tape a reading poster up and he said he was allergic to sticky tape ...I asked him what happened if he got it on him..he said it would give him 3rd degree burns...I said..now I know how to get you to work..I'll chase you around the library with a piece of scotch tape..talk about deer caught in the headlights look...It's been a few hours now and he has figured out that I'm just a crazy old lady..but they all really worked hard today..took out a ton of trash, washed all the windows, glass doors, all the light switches, trim around doors, shelved books,etc...oh and the one girl did all the vacuuming until the cord worked loose and gave her heart a little shock..So now I have to go get a new plug and replace it..along with finding a plumber for the women's bathroom, and toilet supplies...
Oh...did I tell you that they hired Nancy the one I wanted to be librarian..With Henrietta's cancer coming back and her being in such bad health, they went ahead and got a new Librarian..a job I didn't want..I think the board and I would have been at each other's throat the first meeting..But they are paying me..yeah..it's $6 an hour...cash..as they know it would affect my rent and I don't want that..not much considering what I have had to do this past 17 days...this place was a mess..Henrietta hasn't done anything in a year at least..books were and still are a mess..So far the fiction section is done, the large print section is done, the paper backs are done, but think they need to be reworked as some shelves are so crammed tight with books you can't even get a book out...Western section is done, the audio section is done, the video section is done, and the BIOS are done..and this place is sparkly clean...My ass is dragging....But my little library is rocking..
Have to go...30 minutes till closing and need to get organized...yeah ..right!

now I know how to get you to work..I'll chase you around the library with a piece of scotch tape..

That is hilarious. For a moment, I was worried you were going to say you stuck a piece on him and pulled it off while saying, "See you're OK, now get to work!"

By the way, you're very welcome and thank you for the cat food coupons, too. I will send more later this week.

Sounds like the 600 and 800 sections started getting to big so they just moved the 700's out to make room. The odd numbers always get treated like second class numbers.
I can see the secret meeting of the library board. We have to hire someone before the next meeting or Jackiesue will come in here and then we'll all have to go get treatment for severe psychological damage and maybe physical to boot if someone says the wrong thing.

I would be sorely tempted to get out the clear tape and find out if he was telling the truth.

It's a shame they had to replace Henrietta but she would have a hard time working with the chemo to cope with.

I fucking love the Scotch tape threat! Sounds like something I'd do. I had a kid yelling out in class this morning and gave him a couple of whacks while my back was turned. He never saw me coming. I couldn't help but snort with laughter. He said, "Mrs. T? If my daddy knew that, he'd kill me!" Harrrrrr! He'd kill his own kid...not me! Good times!

Congrats on the library...you're a good woman, Jac! I'm proud of ya!

Could you come over and straighten up my mess? Your very own library, sounds like heaven if it didn't involve so much work......

All my best to Henrietta, give her a hug for me

I swear jac, i feel your pain... chasing 6 kids around all day is killing e .. :P
I was complaining abot my feet last night.. didn't help btw.. no use complaining..
back to it today..
At least when you redo the books, you can stand back and see what you have wrought.

Some days I feel like I am living Groundhog Day....

Anyway.. take it slower.. those books are not going anywhere!
slowly but surely ya know?

My feet have the same love for me especially since now every night at work I have to go around and flip these little red cotter pins up on many of the doors in the 400-some apartments that are in this building. If the person doesn't have their door open by 11 am, the day shift aide has to check on them. Sucks to be my feet!

Geeze woman, now you've made me tired. Take a break.

Cheese, I would think it is worse for the people who are not up and about before 11:00. I hate when people come in and check to see if I'm breathing.
Poking pins in me is a little annoying too.

HMHH: he ended up being a really good worker...they were so fresh faced and eager..made me want to smack them..ha
Tex:one of my favorite expressions is"my life must be a fairy tale..cause my ass is a dragon."
nitwit:I'm sure there was a good reason...cause ole henrietta knows she stuff...and the 600's are a huge section..it's the cook book heath section..home repair, arts and crafts etc...lots of stuff
You know I wanted to stick him with that tape just to see...so bad..my luck he was telling the truth and i'd be in the west jail for child abuse..
yeah, I was talking to the judge(who owns the liquor store) and he said they have already heard about me at the city council meetings, kiwanas and chamber...he said he didn't help it any by telling stories about me when I used to drink...he said he knew when I quit drinking as his business dropped 8 percent...huh..everyones a fucking commedian..
Buddha_girl: i love my library so much and for all my bitching..I love every minute of it..except for the obeying orders part...
Junebugg;so good to hear from you...yup..it's really starting to look up and have had people commenting on how much better it looks..when i told nancy how much i had done she was thrilled to death...said not to do all the work before she got back..ha..hardly...
Kath:actually they were great kids and did lots of good work...some batches of them are better then the others...some screw around and don't really do much work..then the others make up for them by working like little elves...
Cheesy:not a job I would want
rainwolf:i admit when i came in today..i started to shelve some books and said fuckit..been playing halloweeen hangman game my girlfriend sent me..which i have passed on to all of you..

Way to get the kids moving- tape allergy? Was he puttin' you on?
I wanna work in library- I hope there's a crazy old lady to chase me around...

the rube said...

but as soon as you organize the books some fuckers come and check them out.

then they dump them on the counter and you gotta sort them again.

shit, it's like washing your car and driving through mud.

Did you think about maybe jamming the books in so tight that no one could get any book out? It might not serve the purposes of a public library, but it would sure make it easier to maintain.

Allergic to tape. I must use that.

allan:nope he really does have that alergy...weird huh?
I think I have almost as much fun with the kids as they do...i do see a lot of eye rolling though...
the rube:it's not people checking them in and out ..it's when we have 200 books to put up and the do nothing 2 girls that used to come in on wed to help would just stick them where ever they thought they could get a way with it..the paper backs with the hard backs, the bios with the numbered books, the numbered books misnumbered all over the place...and judas priest the childrens books are a mess...but slowly but surely...it's getting back to normal..well as normal as west libray will ever be...
jan:we have that problem in the paper back section..we have so many that you have to damn near grease them to get them out..

Nit Wit said...

The library here uses those twirly racks for paperbacks something like the ones you see in stores but fancier.
People love to browse them just like in the stores.
That skeleton is a smart ass. I wasted an hour playing that silly game.

Builder's Club? Is that like the Masons?

A library seems like it would be a cool place to work or volunteer, though I would probably get distracted pretty easily.
