1994..THE STARS AT NIGHT..ARE BIG AND BRIGHT..DEEP IN THE HEART OF WEST, TEXAS

My time in San Francisco was running out and all the stores were closing up I Finally had hired some trust worthy people and got to see the 2 places I wanted to see..Haight/Ashbury and Chinatown.I had been in the Haight/Ashbury area back in 1969. I had heard my friend 'dirty ron' was staying on Haight and Cole, so I stood on the corner and yelled'dirty ron...wake the fuck up'...after about 5 minutes he stuck his head out of a window and said'sonofabitch, you're like the fucking F.B.I. you can find anybody anywhere'...Judas Priest, people were screaming "F.B.I. and running down the street. That was fun.
I spent most of my free time in Chinatown where I spent most of my money
..buying stuff for the granddaughters..I loved it there..
Finally it was time to go...mj was going back with me but was coming back ...I kept thinking she would change her mind..she was just 20 years old..what 20 year old wants to move by herself 1,300 miles away from all her family... but when you have a family like ours...ha..it was just always her dream to live there and now that she had friends and a job(tending bar...not 21 but they didn't know that)so she was going to say hi,bye and then head back to San Francisco. We left and I was going to go down highway 1 so she could see the coast and the ocean...but it was raining really hard and I thought .nah...our luck there will be mudslides, and there were..we lucked out again..But all the way across the country we were like 300 miles in front of a snowstorm...we pulled into D's drive way(our heater had gone out about 500 miles back)when the sleet hit..the snow hit about 2 hours later..not bad but we saw pictures of the snow we left in our wake..which reminds me ..the earthquake wasn't in 1993, it was Jan. of 1994...
Since
I didn't have a house anymore, I stayed with D.and his family..got to spend time with N.and the new baby H.which was wonderful..It took awhile before I got to see Jenny and Jamie as Thom and K had gotten a divorce and that was my punishment, finally got that straightened out and got to see and be with all the girls..My first order of business was to bury Bill..these wonderful people at the Dog Hospital kept Bill in a freezer till I could come back and bury him..he is in a pet cememtary in Bellmead and I go see him when I can..
My sec
ond order of business was to find a place to live..and had already decided to move to West.No one was crazy about me moving there..but that is what I wanted..found a little house about 1 1/2 blocks from our swimming pool..which the girls loved when they came to spend the week end with me..I had gotten a severence pay from company as I didn't want to move to New Jersey, which was their next great idea...so we parted ways..My kids didn't want me away from home again...so I went to work at Community Grocery store to keep me out of trouble till I found a real job..So..life is good..I'm home in West, Texas..my granddaughters visit me all the time...(think it was the pool)and I have one of my dogs(Honey) and my two cats..Chuck and Al..no more pan handlers, no more icy wind off the bay, no more working from 8am to midnight..but plenty of kolaches and people waving at me ..even if they didn't know who I was...I was home.

Music lost some great's this year..from two different times and two different styles but still both were great ...Henry Mancini and Kurt Cobain.

I think this was a sucky year for movies..except for one.Pulp Fiction...I love that movie..and a movie that I think is the dumbest, least funny movie I have ever seen....Forest Gump.At the end of that movie..I sat there and thought to myself..'You have got to be kidding me?'...dumb dumb dumb.. To balance it out there was The Lion King,True Lies,The Santa Clause and Speed.Hooorah! One of my favorite actors died this year and really messed up my Soap Opera watching..Mac Donald Carey, who played old man Horton on Days of our Lives..sigh*..Cesar Romero,John Candy,Burt Lancaster, Raul Julio and to prove that vampires do die...Peter Cushing...But a little tiny baby was born that year and she brings us lots of joy in her movies today...Dokota Fanning...so another year...pissed away...ha..so what where you doing this year? tell me all about it...

I'm totally with you on Forrest Gump ... A friend who I normally trust quite a bit convinced me to finally break down and watch it a few years ago, and it was simply wretched .. I called her immediately and demanded to know just what was supposed to be so good about it, and she couldn't come up with any reasons to watch it herself ... what a waste of time

`94 was a big year in many ways. Thanks for the memory jog on a few of those. . .

In May, I woke from a sound sleep to pain I had never experienced before. . . thought it was a heart attack. Turns out (after 2 months of doctors dickin' around), I had a ruptured disc in my neck.

I had surgery on July 6 to fuse my C4 and C5 vertebrea and spent July and August rehabing by the pool in my new apartment complex. Not bad duty actually. . .

Two weeks after returning to work, I was rear-ended on the freeway and found myself back in the hospital. No serious injuries, but it scared the shit outta me. Truck totalled, but AllSnake gave me a new one. . . Eventually. . .

I also severed all ties with my sons after they told me to go pack sand. . . Their loss. . .

You never cease to amaze me JS. . .

BTW: Yes, Forest Gump sucked. . . BIGTIME!!!

HUGGSS!!

Jackie Sue, did you keep a journal all these years or do you just have an amazing memory? I can already tell that I'm not going to be able to remember things to the extent that you do.

I think Ronald Ray-Gun had Alzhimers when he became president. By far the most over rated president.

josh: no journals...and it's weird how i probably couldnt remember this shit if i wasn't trying to..but it's coming up to 4 back operations and lots of drugs..so dont know how much i will remember then.

The only way this could have been better is with a sound track. This was a sad year for baseball, watching the millionaires and the billionaires fight over money. You're right, it hasn't been the same for me since then. What the war couldn't stop, greed could. O, well, plenty of good things that year. Oh, and I kind of liked Forrest Gump, but I would like Tom Hanks in almost anything.

Good to hear that you were able to see your grandchildren after their parent's divorce. Kids are always a casualty in these things, and as a result they sometimes end up losing contact with important people in their life just because someone wants to punish someone else.

Counting Crows, Mr. Jones. I was just listening to that the other day. Always loved that guy's voice in that particular song.

I was having my mid life crisis dressing up like a cow girl, hat boots, the works, and going to this little bar called Shooters. A country western bar where I met the Wayne Renn band and became very good friends with them. I have pictures. My girls were just teasing me about the cowgirl clothes, hat or no hat, hat or no hat and I would make them tell me cowboy hat or not. They always chose the hat. I loved my cowboy hat and boots. Damn
