WEST, TEXAS NEWS 3/25/11

West VFD Cookoff drew 84 entrants, which is down from last years 98 teams, but with the cost of gas and the economy I'm not surprised. Other coo offs are having a drop in entrants too.
Barbie Strein and her Lost Gonzo Too team from Fort Worth ran away from the field to earn the grand Championship at the 18th Annual West Volunteer Fire Department Barbeque Cookoff. Which is a big fat $15,000. This was a special Cookoff too as it was in memory of longtime West City Fire Marshall and Fire Chief Freddy Gerik, who passed away on September 18, 2010. Gerik had served as the City Fire Marshall from Nov. 13, 1984 and fire Chief from from Oct. 10, 1989. He joined the West Volunteer Fire Department on April 9, 1957. Freddy absolutely loved our Fire Dept and was so much apart of it, that it's hard to think of him being gone.
The Kiwanis held a blood drive Thursday. The mighty mighty Bold Springs Baptist Church is serving meals today. Fried fish and shrimp dinners today and Chicken and dressing dinner for March 28th.
They're holding a benefit for the baby of Billy and Jessica Harrell tomorrow at VFW. I'm making 2 sheet cakes. There will be a hamburger supper beginning at 4pm with an $8 minimum donation per plate. An auction is to begin at 5pm and live music by Ryan Roberts. Little Charlie was born in November 2010 and has RSSV Rhino Virus. He has just now been taken off the respirator and out of ICU. Anyone that would like to make a donation, let me know and I'll let you know where to send the money.
WISD is having extended class days for the missed snow days..Bet the kids are loving that.
Yale University's Women's Slavic Chorus had a performance last Saturday. The group was in Texas during their spring break and had performed earlier in the Dallas area. They were guests at the Barbeque also and 2 of them sat at our table and were judges. First time for them. I think this is great for them. But when you've got a $15,000 grand prize I don't think I would want a couple of yankee girls who have never judged before as part of the judging system. But then I'm still pissed over the raw chicken.
We had a terrible and unexpected death in West. Cyril "C.W." Cernosek passed away. His cancer which had been in remission for many many years came back and took him in a few weeks. He did so much for West I can't even begin to list them, but I'll try.He was State Director for R.V.O.S. Local Lodge for many years. He was a member and held various offices with the St. Mary's Quarterback Club, West Athletic Booster Club, McLennan County Czech Heritage Society, Texas Czech Ancestors, Czech Education Foundation of Texas, West Fair and Rodeo Association, West Longhorn Club, Knights of Columbus Council 2305, Texas Teenage Baseball/Softball Association, and the Catholic Life Association, and K.J.T. #31 of West. He was a city councilman since 1989, been a Westfest Director since in started in 1976. Was a strong leader and supporter of the West Youth Baseball/Softball Association. Basketball Official for the S.B.O.A. Waco Chapter, coached Little League, coached basketball for St. Mary's School in Wet\st, and being very supportive of activities at West Rest Haven. (in the pictures of the cook out we had last summer at West Rest Haven he's the one that I dubbed 'the man in charge of wienies.' He thought that was pretty funny. I can't believe he's gone. He was so very established in the town of West. He did so much for so many and his loss will be felt every where. I know that if you even mention his name at the Haven everyone starts to cry. Jackie the sweety just cries and cries and cries. Kathy is cried out. Just can't believe I won't see him at the Haven again. Sad sad sad.
On top of that ..my friend Steven Vanek's mom died. She was 94 but still, you never want them to go.
West business's are collecting used cell phones. It's a Cell Phones for Soldiers Drive. They will be recycled and aid U.S. soldiers in getting free phone cards. Anyone want to donate their old phone let me know.
Melissa Jade Bennett and Stephen Kyle Jones are engaged and will marry in West in June.
Mathew Aaron Biles and Jennifer Alyssa Naylor are also engaged and will marry in Waco in July.
New babies new babies. Harper Caroline Miller was born on Feb. 21 and weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces and was 21 inches long. And to even it out a little boy, Liam Franklin Stiff was born in Jan. He weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces. Chasity Wolf is 21, M.J. is 5, Zoey is one and someone just turned 50. Didn't recognize him in his goofy hat.
We have a new restaurant in the old Sulak's building. Cafe Vin and they serve Breakfast, lunch and dinner and have live music on the weekend. Will have to check it out.
WHS's theater arts department has scheduled a public performance of their one act play "Darcy and Elizabeth" at 7 p.m. March 28 in the West High School Auditorium. This one act play by Jon Jory has been adapted from Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice and is a romantic comedy set in the middle 1800's in the London countryside. They will also perform this play during Zone competition in Hillsboro High School. Hope they do well.
Nors Sausage and Burger House has a Seafood platter dish that includes catfish, oysters and shrimp and 2 sides for $17.95.
The Lady Trojans and The Trojans are still kicking ass in baseball and softball. They are rocking and rolling all the way to the top..again. I'm so proud of these kids.
Another reason to move to West...Cute house and large garage with additional storage. 2 bed, 1 bath with siding, large pecan trees. 2 lots on corner. $59,900. Great starter home and with all the room, could really remodel and make it even better.
Community Grocery has Slovacek's summer sausage on sale for $3.39. I love Slovacek's sausage.West Food Mart has Tyson's whole fryers on sale for .79 a pound..up a dime from last weeks sale on them. Will still pick 3 of them up..I like buying them whole and cutting them up, my self..much cheaper. Damn...every thing has gone up but my Social Security Check..I'm so poor I can't even pay attention..
Well..have a happy week..we sure are having one here in West, By Goddess, Texas...lucky us.

WEST, BY GODDESS, TEXAS NEWS

Hot dang..West VFD Barbeque Cookoff is this Saturday..hot dang..Yes I will be judging again. I never learn. Although I enjoy judging BBQ better than chili..There are only so many ways you can fuck up BBQ..but millions of ways to fuck up chili..and they do. This is the 18th annual barbeque cookoff for the West Volunteer Fire Department and the city of West.
For the 4th straight year, the cookoff will beva little more profitable for the winners with an increase in guaranteed prize money from $10,000 to $15,000. There is still time to enter and get down her for the cookoff if you drive fast. The barbeque cookoff is sanctioned by the International (IBCA) and will be judged under their rules. The kids will have their Barbeque Pork Chop Cookoff on Friday with judging to immediately follow. I will have to be up bright and early Saturday to get down and sign up. I'll do a post and take lots of pictures.
I always have fun no matter what.

Remember George Hamilton IV? He's going to be at the Abbott Methodist Church at 10:45 a.m. this coming Sunday.
West is having a Bullfest set for April 30. It's the Bullfest and the Texas Youth Bull Riders. Every event in West now has a fest stuck to the end of it. We have Westfest, the 4th of July Expofest (or something like that), and the Mayfest and now the Bullfest. Soon we will have Sundayfest, Kolachefest, Skunkeggfest, etc.
The West Rest Haven is planning a lunch fundraiser on March 23rd at the nursing home facility. 12-ounce bowl of soup and a chicken salad sandwich for $5 a person. Which reminds me I need to call Kathy and see if she needs any help. The proceeds are to go toward scholarships and donations to various organizations.
They are having a benefit for the infant son of Billy and Jessica Harrell at the VFW. A hamburger supper for $8 a plate and a auction to being at 5pm and live music provided by Ryan Roberts. Little Charlie was born in November 2010 and has RSV, Rhino Virus and is still on a respirator at Scott and White Hospital in Temple. I need to call and see if there is anything I can contribute to the auction. So sad.

We also have a new arrival. The most lovely Rylie Anne Lassetter, the granddaughter of my bank manager Bernie Klish. She weighed 7 pounds 13 ounces and 20.5 inches long. I don't know what it is about Bernie, but she has the most beautiful grand-baby's..
You won't remember but couple years ago I posted a picture of her grand-son who had a little neckerchief on and a cowboy had and the cutest expression on his face you ever saw. Rylie is right up there.

Hot dang..The Nemecek Brothers are selling fresh eggs..all natural. White $1.19 a dozen and brown $1.69 a dozen. I wish I had seen that earlier, I would have bought local instead of getting a flat of eggs at House of Satan.
Oh..My girl Marissa Adamson, (Inky's niece) made A Honor Roll again.
The Knights of Columbus Hall of West is having a fish fry March 25th, April 8 and April 22 from 5-7 for $8 a plate. They even have a drive thru. I love West..food everywhere.
Speaking of food, we have a new restaurant. Well, it's at the old Sulak's.

Out West Bar and Grill is now serving ribeyes daily instead of just on Saturday. Tokio has a special treat on Saturday. They have a cover band for Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. hmm, no cover.

WEST, TEXAS NEWS and the 4th of July haps'

Before I get started on the 'haps in West over 4th of July, I have to tell you some news from last weeks news..Scott Podsednik was voted among the top 30 high school baseball players in Texas during the past 100 years. Podsednik now currently playing for the Kansas City Royals was named in June to the University Interscholastic League's baseball ALL CENTURY third team. It lists all of his accomplishments too, but if you want to know more you can google him.
I have to get to the 4th of July events.
I took pictures of the fireworks but none of them turned out. I couldn't get Barbara to go(Matt was racing) so Anissa and I went ..I have the x over where I think the truck and we were, but after looking at it I think it was a couple of trucks over to the right. Last year we had 3,000 people, this year they said over 4,000 people were there. I did a fast count of automobiles and added 2 (there were at least 4-6 kids in each auto) and came up with about 4,500+ people. It was a absolute blast. The fireworks were supposed to be 40 minutes worth. But it lasted an hour and 10 minutes..along with some terrific music. The little Mexican Drive Thru stayed open so we had a taco and sodie pop.
Later on we had popcorn and a sodie pop..I ran into so many people I knew..Patsy Patsy Patsy was there with Andy and his son/girlfriend and kid. Who is at the 'yah? I don't care'..stage..I had so much fun I can't tell you. Over to the left is my 'go to guy' Kirk from Old Corner Drug Store and his son. The 2 of them have saved my ass more than once at the Drug Store. Answer all my questions, give me great advice and always has a big smile for me. Mrs Kirk is wonderful to me also. I love my drug store.

by dark time there were cars on every piece of bare concrete and grass there was.
Of course I had to capture a West, Texas sunset for you too.

some Texas sky for you.

this is while it was still light out and people were still coming in..all that grass where the kids are playing? Was soon to be full of cars.

all of this was full of cars and up and down the sides of the drive way was full of cars and trucks..some double parked.

By dark time you couldn't even walk through the cars that were parked there

.

I had a taco and a sodie pop for $3.50
and the green salsa was kickass.
I will go back again and again. Prices were great, the lady's working there were sweet and polite and it was spotless in side and out. I like that.
So!...this was Saturday night, July 3. I had such a great time. The entire time I was watching the fireworks I was saying to my self..'I love my little town, I love my little town.'...and I do.
Now for the continuing joke that is about to be one of the longest running jokes in West. About a week ago, Anissa showed a picture of a beautiful yellow rose that Inky had given her for their anniversary. I told her how pretty it was and 'what did you get for him for the anniversary?'..She said she hadn't got him anything yet, she didn't know what to get him. I said if he's like most men he want's whiskey or a blow job, or both. She was so embarrassed, she was emailing me back and forth about if she did, I wouldn't know as it was none of my business. I said 'ya ya ya, but you need to give him a blow job.'...So the next day I was at Family Dollar and bought a bunch of crap and Inky helped me carry my stuff out to the truck. I said "So, did you get your anniversary gift from Anissa?"..His face turned beet red, and he said 'no when I got home she was asleep.' So he was grumbling and embarrassed about the entire subject and started back to the door. I waiting till he opened the door and I was getting into the truck and I hollered at him "Inky, I'd give you a blow job for your anniversary but I don't think Anissa would approve."...his face was the color of a tomato..he couldn't even speak he was so embarrassed...Oh it may have been one of my finest moments..So, the next day Babs needed to go to town so we stopped by FD and when she walked in she walked almost 20 feet by the register where Inky was and yelled out:"Inky did you get your anniversary gift yet?"...oh my...SO!..At the fireworks show I relayed all the information and story to PPP and Andy and they were laughing their asses off. They leave after the show was over and went to Wolf's and just as they pulled up Inky was going in Wolf's...Patsy bailed out of the car and ran up to Inky and said "So? You get your anniversary gift from Anissa ?"....Poor Inky...he's never going to hear the end of it. I told his brother Snake, and everyone I met the story. So every where he goes now he gets asked about the blow job he never got. This may go down in the Annuals of the best of Jackiesue.. Life is pretty fucking good.
In the meantime I'm remembering that the 4th of July is T.J.'s birthday and he died about 3 months ago and knew this was going to be very hard on Merle, so I called to see how he was doing and he said they were going to have pork fajitas, beans and all the fixings and for me to come out.(I had been asked to dinner by Mike and Suzanne) and if I did, could I make some of the stuffed jalapenos and bring them. I emailed Mike and Suzanne and said they were welcomed to come out if they wanted to as most of the places were either closed or didn't have a no smoking room. Strickly's may be a 'joint' but they have great ventilation and you aren't bothered by the cigarette smoke. So bitching pissing and moaning the entire time I stuffed 40 fucking jalapenos and took them up to the bar..Where I got to see the regular crew. PPP, Andy, Dennis and Cheryl Porter, the kid and his wife, and various other drunks. The peppers were gone in no time. So I had a great time visiting with Mike and Suzanne who have turned out to be the nicest people ever. They even brought a cake for dessert. The food was great, and a fun time was had by all. I finally started to feel the aches and pains from sitting on the back of the pickup for a couple of hours, standing in the kitchen stuffing and cooking fucking jalapenos so I headed home. When I got there I had 2 messages from Inky and Anissa for me to come to Wolf's they were having a BBQ. So I piled back in the truck and had dinner at Wolf's. Hardly anyone there so Anissa, Inky, Devin and I played hold em and ate BBQ. 2 free meals in one day...how cool is that?. So Monday I made bacon cheeseburgers, corn on the cob and curly friend for Babs and I for lunch. All I have done since then is sleep..Not when I'm supposed to at night, but during the day. Naps rule.
I still have to back the cherry pie I've been talking about for days. I pitted them all last night, and waiting for Anissa to bring me back my fancy smancy pie dish and my book Geek Love. If she forgets again, I'll just use one of my regular pie pans.
We've had some excitement in West. First the owner of Mynars Bar on the corner of the street that the camera shows got ticketed and 2 of her employees got ticketed too. Also arrested.
The TABC filled charges against the owner and 2 employees for serving minors. What makes it worse is the girl that was served (20 year old Vavarro College student) died during the night after drinking there. She had undetected heart trouble and it just quit beating. Could have been caused by the alcohol but they aren't sure. I do see a law suit coming. So I'm pretty sure the bar will be closing soon. Really sad for the girl and sad that they were so stupid they served minors.
Then some schmuck got busted for selling and growing marijuana in his residence, on June 30. He's out on $10,000 bond. Show you how stupid this guy is ...this is his second arrest in the month of June. On June 23, he was arrested at his residence on an assault and family violence charge. Bet the cops found something suspicious and got a warrant to come back and search. So this has been a very action packed couple of weeks..No wonder I want to nap all the time..too much excitement. Ok..I'm off to bake my home made cherry pie..will take pictures..unless it looks crappy and then I'll lie and tell you I forgot.

WEST, TEXAS NEWS 6/23/10

Farmers Market is still doing good. I haven't made it yet, but will probably go this coming Saturday and see what they have. It's just been so fecking hot out that I hate to get out of the apt. unless I have to. Talked to a couple of people that said they had some nice stuff but pretty pricey...soo?
We are going to have our second Czech-splosion the 3rd. of July. The fireworks start at approximately 8:45 p.m. over by the Czech Inn. It's supposed to be bigger and better than last year, which I missed and don't remember why. But I'm going this year just to see the movie. Last year they had 3,000 people which is fantastic as the population of West is less than 3,000. The events will start at 6:30 p.m. with concessions with hot dogs, fried ice cream (yes, it's Texas and we fry shit),sausage wraps(not with lettuce but with white bread) and soft drinks. Remember these are Czech's so I'm sure there will be coolers full of beer. People are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets if they are going to watch the fireworks. We are also going to have a city-wide garage sale and movie night. They don't have a title for the movie yet, but will be a family movie. No Texas Chainsaw Massacre for us.
The West High School Junior Historians take a trip to Europe. 24 West HS Juniors along with 7 adults are in the midst of a 8-day European tour. The school group is known for wearing Czech costumes and their Czech dancing demonstrations and this trip to the Czech Republic and Germany should enhance their cultural knowledge. The places in Germany they are supposed to visit are :The Perguron Museum the Brandenburg Gate, the Checkpoint Charlie Museum, and a a Berlin River Cruise. While in Prague, the group's tour will be at Prague Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral, a stroll through the cobbled streets of the Mala Strana and a trip to the Market Square where they will see the famous 15th century astronomical clock. They also hope to be able to eat in an authentic Czech restaurant while in Prague. Maybe they can bring back some different Czech recipes besides sausage and kraut.

Hell, it's good just to fry up and eat on white bread. Which I can't have but will substitute with WW bread. Oh...milk is on sale too. $2.69 gallon, was up to over $3.00.
Holy Shit! A Mexican Restaurant opened up and I missed it. Las Palmas Taqueria. Where the Taco place used to be over by Czech Inn. Or it might be where the big BBQ Restaurant was, I'll have to see. They even have a coupon buy any plate regular price and get second 1/2 off. The menu looks pretty fecking good. We may have to chippy on Pizza House of West. I love Mexican food and was not all that impressed with Leo's which is across the street from Pizza House of West and always afraid they will see me eating there and have their feelings hurt. Ha.

WEST, TEXAS TRAFFIC CONTROL

I went and voted today..voted for one lone Democrat in a field of 4 republicans..bastids..almost bipped some woman with a Waco Teabag Party on her t-shirt..Also voted in the local election. Saw the people I voted for out front and asked them what was in it for me if I voted for them..Kolaches is the way to go here.

I have received 2 awards from some great people and need to get them up as they have little questionnaires with them. But I have 8 new library books checked out and need to get reading. Jenny and Jason came over yesterday for a combination dress shopping trip and home made pizzas. Jenny cracks me up. I am allowed to wear slacks and the outfit(if they can get the right size in for me) is sort of a robin egg blue and very plain..Jenny informed me I could glitz it up with some gold sandals and some bling. I told her I was 66 and so far had refrained from using the word bling in a sentence and wasn't that interesting in wearing any. But I'm afraid I don't get a vote. To wear the outfit I like I have to wear bling. sigh* Poor Jason, he got some metal in his eye at work and had to go have it removed and his eye ball sanded as the place where the metal was had already started to rust in his eye. So he showed up at the apartment with a patch on his eye and one of his work mates had penned an eye on the patch..he looked weird when he was taking a nap while Jenny and I talked and made the pizza. He felt so bad, I just sent them home with the pizza so he could be more comfortable. Then made a second one and took it over to Babs. She had taken me out for lunch to Pizza House for Mothers Day and thought I could repay her with the pizza. The reason why she didn't take me out this Sunday is because of Nascar. hah

Ok...gotta run..need to trim out my lettuce and water the plants. It's been in the 90's for 3 days and today is high 70's and breezy...Texas...gotta love it.

WEST, TEXAS NEWS

Wow, we had a big fire in West Monday night..over on the 400 block of Virginia which is right down from my old house. They had fire departments from West, Leroy, Elm Mott and Abbot battling the fire. Looks like we will have to have a benefit to raise money for them as I think it's a rental house and I'm sure they didn't have insurance.
My nekkid rain dance paid off, we got 4.95 inches of rain in 4 days. Added to the 1.8 inches a week earlier we got 6.75 inches of rain in September. Last year in September we only got .55 inches of rain. So my ass is working..The rain has turned everything lush green and cooled it down to the low 80's and nights are in the 60's. I am a happy old lady.
A friend of mine just had a 8 lb. 11 inch baby boy and he looks like his Daddy. Grant Mitchell Eubanks has a big sister Kennedy Rose and I'm sure she will spoil him rotten. Edward J. Makovy, Sr. celebrated his 94th birthday, Will Kusler turned one.
The Lady Trojans volleyball team is winning all their games and the West High School Trojans football team is 3-0, which is just fantastic. I think they play at home this Friday and if they do I'm going to try and drag Babs screaming out of her apartment to go watch them. Inky's stepson Devin is playing. Last Friday's game was postponed till Saturday because of lightning but that didn't stop the Trojans, as they won 34.27. Oh I just saw where West has a by this week and won't play again till September 25 against Mexia(maheya).. at home. West High School senior Ashley Anz received a $1,000 scholarship from the Texas Teenage Baseball-Softball Association. We've had a few girls go from High School to Baylor University on sports scholarships, one of them even was a coach for the girls basketball team for 4 years. West Food Mart has Bone-in Beef rib eye steaks on sale for $4.99 per pound. They were out when I went up there but will go back. I have a hankering for a good ole very rare rib eye. Tyson split fryer breasts are on sale for $1.29 per pound and I got a package of them and have them thawing. Will cook them all up in the oven and then freeze them. Community Grocery has Blue Bell on sale 2 -1/2 gallons for $8...sigh* Milk is $2.99 a gallon, which is really down as a year ago or less it was over $5 a gallon.
There are some new listings on houses..one is a 3 bd/2.5 bath brick home with over 2,500 sq. ft. living area on 3.16 acres, built in 1999. Formal dining, living room and game room. Large kitchen, breakfast area, lost of storage, master w/dual vanities. Separate walk-in shower and jetted tub for $250,000. One is just reduced a 3/2 with study. Swimming pool, r.v. parking, and boat parking on 1.5 acres for $289,900.
Remember the meteorite that broke up over West at the middle of February? Well SyFy Channel is making a reality show called about the two goofy guys that were here chasing after the broken bits and pieces of the meteorite. It's called Meteorite Men and should be aired some time around January 6,2010. They will be in the West area to film for the cable show. Maybe Tanner will be on it as he was one of the people that saw it shoot by his house out in the country. I'll let you know for sure when it's going to air and you'll be able to see some of our country side and local characters, like the meteorite sniffing dog.
There is a job opening for a assisted living administrator if anyone is interested. Czech stop is always hiring, but I wouldn't work there for all the kolaches in West. They's some mean sonsabitches to work for. Plus Sunday in that place is pure hell. I counted cars once on a Sunday and quit at 54...Every yahoo in Texas that drives down I-35 stops in West and gets Kolaches. Babs and I went to Gerik's Bakery and they had all their day old kolaches 5 packages(6 kolaches in each package) for $6...We got 5 packages each and now we can't get anything else in the freezer as they are full of kolaches. But damn...I finally broke down and gave a package to Margaret and a package to Charlotte and one to the kid that lives next door. Still have 112 kolaches in the freezers..and since I'm not supposed to eat them I will end up giving them away too. Was going to take them to Jenny and Jason's but can't get up the gumption to drive all the way out to Bosqueville, which is 35 minutes from my place. Typical Texan, I don't figure out the miles just how long it takes.
Every time I go into Family Dollar now Inky runs and hides. He had an 'episode' last week and had double vision for a couple of hours and freaked him and Anessa out. He of course stayed at work and when Anessa told me about it she wanted me to go exert my muscle and check his blood sugar. But he's deathly afraid of needles and actually ran out from the counter at work and ran down the candy aisle to get away from me. Pussy. So now every time I go in he runs and hides because he thinks I'm going to stick him.
Annie spent one night in the bathroom because she kept getting on the new furniture and peeing on it and pissing me off at the same time. I know she can't help it, but it's hard not to get all freaked out when she's peeing all over the place and dropping little tootsie rolls as she walks ..That didn't work as she just sat up in her basket and peeing on my new dresser. I'm telling you....she almost died. So I made her sleep out side(it's really very nice out) one night and instead of sleeping in her basket she crawled under that white shelving unit which is about 4 inches of room for her...made me feel like an unfit mother. So I let her stay in but every time she gets out of her basket I grab her up, run her outside and squeeze the piss out of her. She hates it and so do I but the other resort is me stuffing things up her butt.
Bucky's Bargain Barn is closing down, so all his stuff is 40% off. I went in the other day and spent $22 on crap. But got some Christmas gifts and some cute stuff to send to some of you lucky folks. Still trying to find stuff to send for a thank you for the help you all gave me and Annie.
Oh I know what I was going to say..if you aren't watching Sons of Anarchy, your missing some great TV. I fucking love that show and this season opened up with Adam Arkin playing a White Supremacist and instigating the rape of the wife of the head of the MC. Holy shit!...She's played by the actress that played Peg Bundy...she's so good on this show. You have got to watch it..

Welp...I'm done. Sorry this is so boring, but I got jackshit to say about anything. Well, I do think the President is right Kanye West is a jackass and the republicans are gigantic buttroys. I will do a post on what I think of the new president, but still want to give him a chance to reclaim his balls and do something before I rip him a new one. fuckme I'll never vote again.

WEST NEWS

Look at the little girl in the middle..she took 2nd place..that's not a happy little girl..hahah

Normally I wouldn't post another West News post so close to the last one, but there is lots going on. A group of West citizens will deliver 105 dozen kolaches to the Texas Legislators. They do this every year as this is "West Day" in Austin, Texas at the State Capitol. The West City and Chamber of Commerce officials along with the West High School Junior Historian members are all going to make the trip. Actually the residents of West are all invited to join the West group at the State Capitol as they deliver the 105 dozen kolaches to the various state representatives' and senators' offices, which will include 'ole good hair' Perry.
In addition to the delivering of the kolaches, a proclamation is to be read in the House of Representatives' chamber proclaiming it "West Day at the State Capitol." Members of the West contingent are also to be recognized in the chamber's gallery. The West High School Junior Historians are also going to dance that morning in the rotunda at the State Capitol. This has been going on every year since 1997. That was the year in which West kolaches were named the "Official Kolache of the Texas Legislature" and the city was named the "Czech Heritage Capital of Texas." I would go, but I start jury duty the 20th, and don't know if I will be picked. If I don't I'm tempted to go..But then I would have to behave myself, or embarrass my little town. Every one knows I like proper manners at a shindig like this, so best I opt out..hahah..
We also had Easter activities this past weekend..It finally stopped raining long enough for all the kids to see the Easter Bunny and have the annual Easter Egg hunt. I circled all the people I kno
w in the picture...Looks like a family reunion..
The State Main Street is coming to West, to help us decide what we're going to do to make our Main Street beautiful. The
y are also working on a Farmers Market to be open every Saturday of the growing season. Which I think is wonderful and have already called and asked to be a volunteer. They must know me as they haven't called me back. I think they are envisioning me telling visitors to 'sit your ass down' on our new park benches. They are working on what kind of benches(we already have some), trash containers, planter boxes, and lamp posts to use for the new Main Street. I hope the people really come out and help with this, as it's going to take a lot of volunteers.
We had 4 people pass away this past week...and 2 new births, which is helping to balance it out. Caroline Nicole Menefee weighing in at 7 lbs.1 oz. and 19.5 inches long. Bryce Ethan Nemec is a big baby..he weighed in at 9 lbs.5 oz.and 21 inches long. He is sooo cute. Looks like he's 4 months old already.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Kucera celebrated their 50th Anniversary and Jamie Lynn Crumpton is engaged to John Emil Jaska and will be married on May 2, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West. the most lovely Miss Ava Dees had her second birthday on April 7. She is really a pretty little girl..and how cute is the name Ava.?
The Lady Trojans moved into first place tie in 7-AAA. We always have great baseball teams in West. Like I said, baseball is the number one sport. A
lthough we also have great volleyball teams too. We used to have a great football team but now we're just good. The Trojans took over second place in the district with a 13-5 win...hot dang..
West Food Mart has a special of round steak for $2.49 per pound and Dr Pepper 3 for $10. I always think Dr Pepper should be cheaper in Texas than any place else, since we made it and still make the original in Dublin,Texas...
There is a $200 reward for information on who ever shot this man's dog. Some asshole shot his dog with a pistol. They have a description of the truck and in a town this small, they'll catch him..Bastids..
Some nice homes for sale. One in Ross, which is 6 miles from West..It's on 8 acres. House has 2 mater suites, 4 small bedrooms plus 2 living and dining areas. Has an in-ground pool with deck and gazebo. Metal horse barn, hay barn and large storage building. Just reduced to $221,995. Now that's a good buy.
We also have a guy who is selling dried manure. He 0nly loads on Saturday form 9 a.m. to noon. $75 per dump truck and $50 per pickup truck load. Buckets or tubs, load yourself for $1 per container. I love small town ads.
The paper is full of little signs saying "got meteorites?"...Some one found one about 10 lbs. and they won't tell how much they paid..but both the people quit their jobs.ha.
Community Grocery has Idaho Russet Potatoes for 39cents a pound. Too bad I don't eat potatoes any more..But Chow Mein is on sale for 99cents so can make Chinese food for dinner.
Ohhh, I almost forgot..I had bought 4 large jalapeno peppers...the real long ones? Didn't know what I was going to do with them but figured I'd think of something..and I did..First I grilled them and peeled them...then I made a cream cheese/sour cream with chopped up avocados mix. stuffed the peppers with the mix and then breaded them and deep fried them in canola oil. Oh my Goddess, they fucking rocked. I made 2 and took one to Babs. I ate mine and wanted to make the others right then and there. But I have to limit myself to one a day because of the breading ..let me tell you...them suckers are good and they are easy peasy to make..
Family Dollar lost another manager. She quit last week, and no one is sorry to see her go. Every time something went wrong she pulled the race card...Customers were rude to her because she was black, someone called her a nigger...I personally don't believe that..they have a name for black people in Czech and I'm sure they called her that..what ever it is..any how..she's gone..Now we have a 27 year old black guy who Inky says works hard and keeps his head down. So Inky's happy. I'm going to have to break down and tell them I'm not coming back to work. They have kept it open for me to come back if I wanted, but not going to ..as much as I would love to..I love my toes better. Gotta run....need to go to town and get some glucose testers and melatonin from Old Corner Drug. Say my howdy's to Kirk...

NEWS FROM WEST, TEXAS

The West Rodeo is this weekend..and they are having the parade tomorrow, starting at 11am..I'm thinking of going...see if I can drag Babs out of the apt to go with me..It's going to be in the mid 100's, and not sure she wants to leave a nice cool apt. to see a bunch of Westites on horses. I haven't been to the Rodeo parade since the time Chris Archer and I commandeered 2 horses that were parked in front of the Capital Bar and rode them (drunk...well, we were drunk, I'm pretty sure the horses were sober) to Wolf's, when Wolf's was on the outskirts of town. I stayed with the horses while Chris went in and got us some beers to drink on the way back..When we showed back up we had some very unhappy cowboys who had come out to discover that two drunks had kidnapped their horses to go for a ride. Lucky for us they didn't bip us upside the head and ride over us with the horsies...
I'm pissed, I forgot all about the All Star Barbecue Shootout at the West KC grounds last weekend..They were cooking steaks with baked potatoes and salad for $10, plus selling the BBQ that was left over from the contest..Dang!...I'll have to settle for The Bold Springs Baptist Church's hamburgers the 4th of August. They are also making lasagna, chicken spaghetti, garlic bread salad and desert. I can't tell you how good their food is..Almost enough to make me become a Baptist...............yeah, right!
I also found out that the minister to the Bold Springs Baptist Church is lily white...Lily white from England. Which is pretty unusual considering the Bold Springs is the oldest black Baptist Church in West. Well, it's the only black church in West, Baptist or otherwise..He comes in the store all the time and is pretty funny..I get a kick out of his stories..he's married to a black lady, maybe that's how he got the job...
Tokio Store is having live music, food and a small auction tonight BBQ sandwich plates $5 a plate.

The Church of the Assumption has scheduled its annual Feast Day Festival for Aug. 10 at the West KC grounds. A fried chicken and sausage dinner with all the trimmings is to begin at 11am. Adult plates and plates to go are $7 and children's plates are $5. There will be playground equipment and fun games .There will also be horseshoe pitching, a country store, silent auction and bingo. A raffle featuring 38 prizes is also planned.
The West W.E. Electric team won the state championship in the TTAS Coach Pitch Girls Tournament last week in Holland.(Texas not the country). They finished the season with a 26-1 record.
The West Library is seeking eggshells for fund-raiser. Henrietta did it every year and we are continuing to do it..I save all my eggs and cartons and take them up there every week. They fill them full of confetti and sell them at Westfest and the money goes to the library. Every year Henrietta would rope me into stuffing eggshells with confetti, I always acted like I had better things to do, but really enjoyed it..Miss ole Henrietta..But Nancy is doing a fantastic job at the library. We are getting a lot more patrons in and I actually have to get on a list to read certain books..
They are holding a benefit for Doug Snokhous of Leroy, Texas which is just down the road from us. It will be on August 17 at Tours Hall. The benefit is to include a fried chicken and sausage dinner and there will also be an auction, raffle and silent auction. Doug is uninsured and is currently receiving treatment for cancer. Another reason why I love my little town. When some one needs help, the entire town pitches in..I have some books I might donate for the silent auction. I donated some children's books for a auction for a baby that they are raising money for. I used to get drunk with ole Doug, so I'd like to do what I can.
OOh, West Food Mart has fresh lean ground beef on sale for $1.69 lb. and Boston Butt Roast for $1.49 lb. Blue Bell is on sale too, but I can't think about that...sigh*
If you're interesting in buying in West, by Goddess, Texas you can get 63 acres of land, with new fencing, improved pasture with coastal, and nice stock tank for $2,900 an acre.
Nice brick home on the corner of Reagan and Oak. Home has 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, wood floors, and antique french double doors, dining room and breakfast room, old fashioned cellar and fenced back yard..all for the grand price of $99,900.
Here's a 2bedroom, 2 bath, appliances, built-in flat screen TV, green house, storage building and above ground pool for $95,500. The Village Bakery is still for sale as is the Leroy Store with house for $135,000.

Inky called me this evening to tell me that me and my blog have a fan in town. I freaked out..I didn't think anyone other than Babs and Bubba even read the blog. Inky said she is a school teacher here in West and is a big fan of my blog, that we have a lot in common and she just loves me..Holy Shit!..That's pretty fucking cool. I figured if anyone from town ever found out about my blog they would be storming the store with petitions for me to cease and desist and to leave town. I'm still dissapointed that no one has said anything about my bumper stickers...Tom said "what do you expect from a town where no one gives a shit."...good point..
Anyhow, to my new reader and fellow resident of West, stop by and say howdy at the store and you're more than welcome to leave a comment..
Going to go water the garden, feed and water the birds. I'ts 11pm, but it's cool out and just to hot to do it during the day.
Have a great weekend, Rodeoodiodi, rodeoodiodi, bordering on the insane..hats off to Jerry Jeff Walker..

WEST, TEXAS NEWS

Lots of news coming out of West, by Goddess, Texas this week...I'll start with the bad news...One of Inky's best friends died..He was 42 years old and Inky and him have been best friends for better part of their lives..Over memorial day he and his mother had come in and she was laughing about dragging his ass out to the cemetery to clean, mow, weed, etc. on the family graves..He had a little trailer out on his mother's land and he always came to the house in the morning for breakfast..when he didn't show she went and checked on him and he was dead..She is really in bad shape..She thinks she killed him by making him work in the cemetery all day in the hot sun. But he's 42, who would think that would do you in? Inky was one of the pall bearers and was in really bad shape last night..The funeral was today and he was really sad and not his normal give a shit self..Inky's 44 and I'm sure he's thinking this isn't how it was supposed to end for Chuck..Last night after work I went by Wolf's where I knew he and Anessa would be to see how he was doing..Getting drunk...and can't say I blame him..Maryjo had called from San Francisco as she had heard the news and she and Chuck were good friends too. The only part of the night(I stayed about 30 minutes) was I got to see a ton of friends I hadn't seen in years..Even living in a town this small, I don't see them as they still drink and party and I don't..Wish you could have seen the looks on their face when they asked to buy me a beer and I said I don't drink any more and haven't in 17 years..I got to see a good friends kid who is one of Jenny and Jamie's best friends..and for a while thought he was going to be one of those drug deaths..He's doing terrific..Asst. manager at a store and doesn't even drink..I was going to stick around just to catch up but....as much as I enjoyed seeing them...had no desire to hang around and watch them get drunk...and Inky said today...it got really drunk out last night...Been there, done that and have the swollen liver to prove it..
Enough bad news...the good news is ..Sunday they are having a special memorial reception to honor Miss Henrietta ....They even are going to hang an oil painting of her right by the check out desk. I will take a picture of it..I just wish they had done this for her so she could have been there ...I will be able to go as I have Sunday and Monday off..or maybe just Sunday..I'm still debating as I am now officially the day 'girl'....Tom fired A. today when she came in an hour late with out calling and letting anyone know...and brought her kid with her....??? What the fuck?....anyhow, it went easier than Tom thought...I think she thought she was bullet proof...
But the best part of the day is...I have started to corrupt Tom...hahahahah!Today some lady let her 3 year old kid have a full bottle of Sprite and when the kid started pouring it all over the floor got 'snippy' with Tom when he told her to take the kid and the drink outside..she said it was too hot and her little darling needed the drink...and Tom pointed at his face and said 'Does this look like a face that cares.'.....She got mad and took the little darling home...When Tom told Inky and I the story I almost fell on the floor laughing...Yup...it's working...I'm corrupting him..
This is graduation week in West. We have 122 kids graduating...and our kid Frito is one of them...His picture is so cute...He has more hair now but it's still short..I gave him my phone number and told him...'do not....do not..under any circumstances..get into a car with anyone who's been drinking or if you have. Call me and I will come and get you take you home, and take you to get your car the next day..No questions asked and I won't tell your Mama...'...he promised he would...He is such a great kid...and doesn't seem to care that I call him Frito either..

More West news?...I'm so excited...Community Grocery has their own bacon on sale and liver is on sale too...The bacon is usually $3.60 a lb. and it's on sale for $2.59...it's the best bacon in the world...and liver's on sale for .89 cents a lb. I'm going to make a big batch of it..some for me, some for Inky and some for the granddaughters mom...We all love our liver and onions..and no one else in the family does..
We have some great deals on houses here. This is one ad:"all you have to do is move into this superbly maintained homel. Beautiful landscaping all around. 2 bedroom,2 bath, appliances, built-in flat screen TV, green house, storage building and above ground swimming pool. $98,500."
Dang....and another:"Very nice older home with very spacious rooms, nice wood floors, large lot and big back yard. Guest house included. Priced to sell at $69,900."
Plus you can buy a 1999 Chevy Camaro for $4,500 and get a free border collie mix for free..
My garden is growing like crazy thanks to all the rain ...Hope to be able to fry me up some okra soon..
Annie dug into the dumpster and brought home a huge piece of cornbread and ate every bit of it..No wonder she won't eat canned friskies...
Guess that's about all from West...I'm going to do a stumble upon post soon and then I think it's time for the Goddess to answer some questions.
It's almost midnight..have to hit the hay...in the immortal words of Billy Pilgrim..."I love you sonsabitches."
Ohhh, before I forget...some kids from the high school came in the store a couple of weeks ago and wanted to ask questions and put it on tape for their class...they asked Inky if they could ask him a question..he said ..'sure'....so they said (camera rolling) "What is magnesia?"...and with out blinking an eye or a seconds pause Inky said "Ain't it that white stuff you put on white bread and baloney?".....I love that boy..
