WEST NEWS.ALL THE NEWS AND NOTHING BUT THE NEWS

My old friend David Pareya won his run off...so that is good news...The county burn ban is lifted, that is good news. The West Volunteer Fire Dept. has approximately 70 cookoff teams intered as of Tuesday. It is scheduled for March 18 at the West Fair and Rodeo grounds in the city of West, and that is excellent news.
They are holding a free shot clinic at the elementary school. The Czech Classsic Car Club is holding their meeting next Sunday. Kiwanis Club is having a fish fry in the West Middle School cafetorium. The West Ambulance Service will be having their semi-annual Mexican Dinner Fund Raiser. The menu is to include enchiladas, taco, rice, beans and all the trimmings. There will also be raffle tickets to be sold and $1 each or 6 for $5.
The Fur Trading era re-enactment at Aquilla's Dead Horse Creek is a roaring success and still going strong..There are 2 pages of pictures of men and women in period costumes..it really does look like the real deal..Some guy has become so enamored with the muzzle-loading rifles that he uses them to go deer hunting each year.
There are two articles in the West News that are totally against Bush and the republicans and I was shocked right down to my converse tennies.....Holy shit! Has good sense finally come to West? Be still my beating heart...
Babies babies...new babies..Three new births this week, and only 2 deaths..we're catching up. Three birthdays, two engagements and one of them is Derek Maler who is one of the kids of a couple that I have known for almost 30 years..Damn, I can remember when he was born. He is a friend of my 2 granddaughters and is a good kid..He had some bad moments right out of high school, but he found a way to straighten his life out and is really doing well..
Jerry's Chicken Shack is celebrating their one year anniversary. They do make great chicken, but try to limit my intake so only go once every 2 months.
Oh cool, the garage sales are starting to pop up now...I love garage sales, they are better than used shit stores.
The Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas, KJZT Society #104 Immaculate Heart of Mary Junior Division in Abbott recently supported the Wendy's Winter Coat Drive by collecting winter coats for people in need. Nice thing for the kids of West to do..but actually only printed it because I liked typing out the full name of the group..17 words...heheee.
The boy Trojans have qualified for the Regional Powerlifting Meet. Go Trojans. The boys baseball team is not off to a good start, they lost 3 games in West tourney. The Lady Trojans won twice in the non-district action....
70 years ago Rud J. Marar believed he was the first at driving an automobile in West. His license number was 1256..denoting that in 1910 there were 1256 cars in McLennan
county. Mr. Marak said he had the same license number for years.
Jeanette Karlik printed a old timie washing list and will reapeat it here if for nothing else Babs and I ....
WASHING CLOTHES RECIPE
Build fire in backyard to heat kettle of rainwater. Set tubs so smoke won't blow in eyes if wind is pert. Shave one whole cake of lie soap in boiling water.
Sort things...make 3 piles..one pile white, one pile colored and one pile work britches and rags.
To make starch, stir flour in cool water to smooth, then thin down with boiling water. Take white things, rub dirty spots on board, scrub hard and boil. then rub colored. Don't boil, just rinse and starch.
Take things out of kettle with broomstick handle, then rinse, and starch. Hang old rags on fence. Pour rinse water in flower bed. Scrub porch with hot soapy water. Turn tubs upside down. Go put on clean dress, smooth hair with hair comb, brew cup of tea, sit and rock a spell and count your blessings.
It's 80 degrees, the sun is shinning, there are garage sales this weekend and if I need to wash clothes I can take them to the laundry mat....
hoooooooooora........

I've read stuff by Clive Barker but no, sorry, I haven't seen that play! And those West-ians, Westites, whatever you want to call them, better start crankin' out the babies if they expect to keep the population up.

Just love this post, esp. the old-timey way of doing the wash. I still don't understand how all those old people did all that hard work in the hot weather and wore all those clothes. My grandfather (mother's side) wore his long-johns, long sleeve shirt, an old jacket (and his work pants of course, lol) and his old hat and would go up to sit by the road in his gateway. Summertime, hotter 'n'hell, and here he was in all those clothes! And me sweating in shorts and top. I just love small-town newspapers. You know who was born, who had a birthday, and who bought it. I can't believe the long, long name for that Catholic church. Didn't they think people would laugh when they named it....hehehehehe hugz, Linda

Two anti Bush articles. Holy crap it’s a revolution! Next they might say that Tom Delay may not be completely honest.
Now the West procreators need to string a few weeks together with more births than deaths.
If I go to yard sales I have to have a yard sale to make room for all the new junk I buy. :)

A lot of people are going anti bush, even the right wingers (God forbid!) whether or not this is just an opportunist facade i dont know. Speaking of facades, i looked at kentuky girls blog snob website, she just wasn't worth my words, though i loved your comment. I can apply a modified version of marting luther kings famous speach:

"I have a dream today, a dream that one day bloggers will not be judged by the colour of their template but the content of there chracter"

I'll stick to my bathtub laundry. Plus, I have no back yard for a kettle. Damn!
